We encourage everyone to understand when and why to create a will as part of responsible end‑of‑life and estate planning. Taking this step today brings peace of mind for tomorrow — for you and those you love. 💙

A clear, legally prepared will helps protect your loved ones, ensures your wishes are honored, and supports smoother funeral, burial, or cremation planning.

On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks changed the course of history when she refused to give up her seat on a segregated bus and was subsequently arrested. Rosa’s story – both on that fateful day and in the years to follow – is a reminder that one simple act of courage can spur positive change, and a life of service can be the foundation of a remarkable legacy.

In honor of Rosa’s lifelong commitment to equality and community support, last year, the Daughters of the American Revolution ( Detroit Chapter, NSDAR) commemorated her story 70 years after her arrest and 20 years after she was laid to rest at the Rosa L. Parks Freedom Chapel.

The Daughters partnered with Woodlawn Cemetery (Detroit, MI), another location in our Memorial Planning network, to present a new bronze plaque, establishing an everlasting tribute to the Mother of the Civil Rights Movement.

When should you start pre-planning your arrangements? The answer might surprise you—it’s earlier than you think.

Pre-planning isn’t about age; it’s about peace of mind, protecting loved ones, and making informed choices on your own terms. Whether you’re in your 30s, 40s, or beyond, pre-planning gives you the opportunity to document your wishes, lock in costs, and reduce emotional stress on your family.

Learn more about what age is right to start pre-planning and why families across generations are choosing to plan ahead:

Planning for the future is crucial, especially when it comes to ensuring your family knows what to do when you're no longer with them. One of the most thoughtful steps you can take is to pre-plan your funeral. Deciding the right age for this process is personal, with no definitive answer, but severa...

Upon the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., President Johnson declared a National Day of Mourning; flags were lowered and a 3-mile-long procession accompanied the casket to the funeral.

And yet, upon Dr. King’s request, the eulogy included no mentions of his awards or accomplishments – instead, the funeral included a sermon, hymns, and reflections on Dr. King’s dedication to service.

While we remember the leader today, every day, we are grateful for the changes Dr. King inspired with his fight for equality and love for humanity. Whether you’re observing with a celebration, an act of service, or a dive into history, we hope you have a special MLK Day.

On Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to our local officers. Beyond the badge, they are neighbors, mentors, parents, and friends who work every day to keep our communities safe.

For every solemn es**rt with a final procession, and every family member who looked to you as a source of strength, we thank you for your compassion and commitment to service. 💙
