We had a busy start to the year here at CCEMS with a total of 412 calls in January. If we break the calls into categories, it would be 239 medical calls, 63 calls considered trauma, 62 Transfers from our local hospitals to high level for care or services not provided in Crawford County. 12 of the transfers went to the Kansas City Area Hospitals, 8 to Springfield and 1 to Rogers, Arkansas. Leaving 41 transfers going to the Joplin, MO area. Finished off with 48 calls we would consider other, these would be assisting other agencies, fire standby, cancelations (Dry Run) etc.. We had a busy 2025 at CCEMS. For the year we had a average of 3 ambulances staffed daily (sometimes 2, sometimes 4) to provide coverage of the entire county. This includes take interfacility transfers when we are available. A total call volume of 4,673 call where ran by our crews for the calendar year. These calls can range from a simple lift assist or assist other agency to a major MVA or cardiac arrest. A part of the 4,673 is also interfacility transfers from the local hospitals to other facilities for a higher level of care. CCEMS was able to take a total of 536 transfer sent out between the two local hospitals, this is 15% of our total call volume. 367 of those went to the Joplin, MO area with 74% of those going to Mercy Hospital of Joplin. 169 of these transfers are what we consider "long distance" which is over one hour of drive time in one direction, with Springfield, Kansas City, Wichita, Tulsa just being a few examples. These numbers do not include the number of transfers we take "in county" from one of the local hospitals to another. We appreciate all the help and support from the community and will continue striving to do our best to provide reliable patient care. We hope everyone has a great 2026!

Crawford County Emergency Medical Services is seeking a qualified EMS Training Coordinator to join our team. This full-time position plays a vital role in supporting emergency medical services through training coordination, quality assurance, and continuing education.

Position Highlights:

• Location: Pittsburg, KS
• Required: Current Paramedic Certification
• Teaching experience preferred

The EMS Training Coordinator is responsible for coordinating CPR, ACLS, PALS, and continuing education courses; maintaining training and compliance records; supporting quality assurance; and ensuring adherence to current standards of care.

We had our last employee meeting of the year this morning. We do these monthly to give employees a chance to speak on issues and come together with training ideas or just ideas for the department in general to make us better. First off we want to thank all of the local companies and restaurants that donated to us for the giveaways, one of our employees mothers worked on getting all these gifts for us with the support if the community we appreciate you all very much. Last but not least we would like to thank each and everyone of our employees for your hard work and dedication not only to us but to the community also. Merry Christmas and happy new year, to all.

Space Weather Alert from the National Weather Service

The sun has been very active, causing strong geomagnetic storms (G4 level) that could make the northern lights faintly visible in our area tonight.

Another powerful storm is expected tomorrow around noon, which may cause GPS and radio disruptions, including issues with farm equipment that rely on satellite navigation.

If you experience any impacts from this event, please report them to the National Weather Service these storms are rare and valuable for data collection!
