Crawford County Kansas EMS

Crawford County Kansas EMS Crawford County EMS is a progressive municipal service within the county government in south east corner of Kansas.

Crawford County is a progressive municipal service within the county government. We serve 500+ square miles encompassing the cities of Pittsburg, Frontenac, Arma and Girard. We have a great mix of urban response as well as rural responses requiring transport times up to 20-30 minutes for emergency calls. We have a progressive protocol which addresses common medical and trauma emergencies and allows for autonomy in many situations. We have Zoll Z vent's, Zoll X Series Defibrillators and utilize Zoll PCR. Modern "Type 1" ambulances with an aggressive replacement program are utilized both in county and on transfers. We commonly transfer patients to Joplin, Mo and KU Medical center. Occasional destinations include Tulsa, Wichita and Springfield, Mo. Call volume over the past three years have averaged 4500 plus and include call types from GSW's, MVC's, Active cardiac events (catheter lab in Pittsburg) and everything you might see in the fast pace urban system but in smaller volumes. Outside of EMS we have Pittsburg State University where you might consider broadening your education. We have LOTS of wildlife opportunities including T & C Outfitters and KDW&P lands and lakes. We are also on the edge of the Ozarks with quick access to several world class fisheries. Branson, Springfield and Kansas City are within a two hour drive as is Grand Lake O' the Cherokees. Our cities offer urban as well as spacious rural living! It would be worth your time to explore opportunities with CCEMS.

Congratulations Tom, it has been an honor working with you over the years. We wish you the best and will see you around.

Today we honor Deputy Fire Chief Tom V***a, who retires after 28 years of dedicated service to the Pittsburg community.
Tom’s career began in the U.S. Army as Military Police, followed by six years with the Pittsburg Police Department before joining the Pittsburg Fire Department in 2003. Over the past 22 years, he has served as firefighter, Fire Marshal, and Deputy Fire Chief—making a lasting impact in fire prevention, public education, safety coordination, and emergency response.
Tom has been a familiar face in our schools during Fire Prevention Week, helping teach thousands of children fire safety. He also served on the SEK Honor Guard for two decades and supported numerous community and regional safety initiatives.
We are grateful for his leadership, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to Pittsburg.

Upon his retirement, Tom will join the Instructor Cadre for Honor Guard Clinics and Schools where he will pass on his years of experience in the Honor Guard.

Congratulations on your retirement, Deputy Chief V***a—and thank you for your service.
