We are so proud of our office assistant: Sahara Garcia! She is attending school full-time (pre-med), participating in ROTC, working part-time and still had time to meet these requirements for EMT/firefighting. Way to go!

🚨 Colon Cancer is Rising in Younger Adults 🚨
— Here’s What You Need to Know —

Recent data shows an alarming uptick in colon cancer diagnoses among adults under 50. What was once considered a disease primarily affecting older individuals is now impacting younger generations at a much higher rate.

This is why screening colonoscopies are so important. Colon cancer is often preventable with early detection. A colonoscopy can identify and remove precancerous polyps before they turn into cancer — and when caught early, colon cancer is highly treatable.

🩺 Current guidelines recommend screening beginning at age 45 for average-risk adults, and earlier if you have risk factors such as family history, inflammatory bowel disease, or certain genetic conditions.

⚠️ Warning signs you should never ignore:
• Re**al bleeding
• Persistent abdominal pain or cramping
• Unexplained weight loss
• Ongoing changes in bowel habits (diarrhea or constipation)
• Fatigue or anemia

If you are experiencing symptoms — regardless of your age — please don’t wait.

Dr. Carlson at Pittsburg Internal Medicine is available for consult appointments to discuss colonoscopy screening and whether it’s right for you. Having a conversation now could truly save your life.
