Sharing this open opportunity to learn more about the practice of functional nutrition.
We have all heard the quote, “let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food,” but how do we apply this advice meaningfully to heal from our ailments?
The answer: Functional Medicine!
Functional medicine is an evidence-based approach to healing that focuses on nutrition, lifestyle, mindset, and the autonomic nervous system.
Uniqueness in genetics, metabolics, lifestyle, environment, history, and gut microbiome merge to influence our overall health and nutrition requirements. Recognizing our bio-individual nature is the hallmark of Functional Nutrition.
In other words, one size does NOT fit all, when it comes to food as medicine.
Based on the principals of Functional Medicine, the focus of Functional Nutrition is on restoring optimum functioning in the body and working to resolve the root cause of illness and dysfunction, as opposed to chasing symptoms.
This approach, in combination with the incredible power of the mind-body connection, sets the stage for restoring balance, well-being, and healing.
As nurses, we can chose to expand our professional practice and improve patient outcomes by pursuing training in functional nutrition.
As individuals, we can use principles of functional medicine to drastically improve our own well-being and quality of life. We can heal from chronic ailments.
