What inspired you to become a teacher?
Yoga entered my life at a young age, and I felt that teaching was more of a calling than a choice. Yoga invites a deep connection and presence within the body, and teaching gives me the chance to offer something real and supportive in our often superficial world. After a few misinformed teachers of my own steered me towards hypermobility, I’ve found Pilates to be a great way to target the stabilizing muscles of the body. I teach to help others build a stronger mind-body connection and bring joy and ease to their lives!
What do you enjoy most about teaching?
I view teaching as a form of selfless service (seva). Whether students come to class for stress relief, mental clarity, mobility, strength, or the myriad of other benefits that come with movement, I feel a great responsibility and privilege to offer this to them. I also find joy in building community around my classes.
Tell us about your life outside of teaching yoga.
I have a portfolio career in fitness, education, and tech. No day is quite the same! Fun fact is I’m from New York and never learned how to drive.
What can student expect in your classes?
In my yoga classes, I weave in metaphors to connect movement to your life beyond the mat. We use postures (asana) to tackle mental challenges, until ultimately we find a place of mental calm and clarity.
My Pilates classes invite more discipline and muscular challenge. I respect the original Pilates method, because that’s where the magic (and results!) really happen. From there, I add on a few sculpt exercises to keep things fresh for the group.
What advice would you give to students in your class?
(1) Yoga and pilates have no look. There is no such thing as a yoga or pilates body.
(2) Flexibility and coordination are a result, not a requirement.
