I am someone who has experienced burnout from working a 9 to 5 office job for many years. Now, I am a certified sound healer with the International Sound Therapy Association, with a mission to help other burnt-out workers find relaxation, inner peace, and calm.

Most people think meditation is about stopping your thoughts.

But that’s actually the part many people misunderstand.

If your nervous system is still in stress mode, your mind will keep thinking — because it’s trying to keep you alert.

The real shift happens when the body starts to relax first.

That’s why practices that begin with breathwork, body relaxation, and guided awareness tend to work much better for people with busy, overthinking minds.

What’s something you’ve struggled with when trying to meditate?

Sometimes the advice we hear most often is the least helpful.

Hearing “just relax” when you’re in panic mode can feel like a slap in the face.

But if your nervous system is stuck in survival mode, relaxation isn’t something you can simply decide to do.

That’s why I focus on supporting the nervous system directly, so the body can actually receive the signal that it’s safe.

Check out my bio to experience for yourself how I use intentional techniques to actually help you calm down.

Sometimes the most helpful thing you can do is question the advice everyone repeats.

A lot of meditation guidance assumes the mind will naturally slow down if you just “focus harder.”

But for people with fast, busy, hyperactive minds, that approach can make meditation feel like you’re doing it wrong.

In reality, the mind usually slows down after the nervous system starts to feel safe and relaxed.

That’s why I design meditations that begin with breathwork, body relaxation, and gentle mindfulness cues — giving the mind somewhere to land instead of trying to force it to be quiet.

What’s one piece of meditation advice that’s never worked for you?

Not all expensive things are created equal.

I work with people whose minds never seem to switch off, the kind of brain that keeps thinking, analyzing, and worrying even when you’re exhausted.

And I’ve seen how easy it is to spend hundreds (or thousands) of dollars on wellness trends that promise instant calm… but don’t actually help when your nervous system is stuck in overdrive.

That’s why I focus on simple practices that help your body gradually settle down: breathwork, body relaxation, mantra, and guided mindfulness designed for hyperactive minds.

Massive anxiety and ADHD relief happens thanks to my daily meditation practice.

But I do find it's more difficult when traveling and staying in a hostel to sit down every single day. It's been a few days since my usual 20 minute sit, and my mind has become so frantic in that time, I knew I couldnt keep putting my self care off any longer.

So, I went to the local park that sits on the edge a lake, sat down on a bench, and closed down my eyes.

I began listening to all the sounds around me: people talking in languages I don't understand, birds chirping, the chaotic traffic and honking Hanoi is know for, kids playing and laughing... it was such a beautiful session.

Every single day I am so glad I found this practice.

First full day in Vietnam was a success. I didn't do much but walk around the Old Quarter and apply for my long term Thailand visa and tried bun cha. Glad I got to see some culture.

Now that my visa is in and I'll have at least a few more days here, perhaps tomorrow I'll make a plan to do some sightseeing. Nope, I did not make a plan before coming here, as all I cared about was getting my application in lol.

Maybe I can catch a last minute tour to see something cool!

Do you believe in luck?

One of the luckiest moment of my life? Discovering sound healing while tripping too hard at a festival on mushrooms.

I confided in a friend who happened to have crystal singing bowls. They taught me to play them and let me sit with them for a while.

That experience changed everything. It led me to become a sound healer and meditation guide, and showed me how deeply sound can regulate the nervous system.

But after 3 years in this work, I know you need more than luck to find calm.

Here's 2 tips from ya boy:

1. Practice regulation BEFORE you need it. Your nervous system learns what calm feels like and can get back there faster when life gets hard.

2. Find what works for YOUR nervous system. Not everyone vibes with traditional meditation. Some need breathwork, others need movement, some need sound. Try different tools and see what settles you.

What helps YOU regulate? Let me know in the comments!

Right after this was taken, I laid down, looked up at the trees and sky, listened to the waterfall, and focused on being present with the experience.

Meditation has given me many things that I am eternally grateful for, and one of those things is the power of presence. To be able to be in the Now just a little bit longer before my mind wonders off.

Laying there, being intention about looking around, noticing the art that Mother Nature is between the plants, water, rocks, colors, textures, sounds... ah! Nothing beats a good day in the jungle.
