Iliacus Muscle
The iliacus muscle is a hip flexor that crosses the Sacroiliac (SI) joint, establishing a connection between the hip and spine.
Its primary functions include flexing the thigh at the hip, assisting in elevating the body from a supine to a seated position, and flexing the trunk and pelvis when the lower limb is stabilized.
Overuse and strain of the iliacus muscle can refer pain, tingling, and numbness to the groin, lower abdomen, hip joint, down the leg, SI joint, and the lower back.
Deep tissue massage focused on the iliacus muscle can provide pain relief in the lower back, hips, and groin, while also increasing mobility and flexibility in the hips and lower back, and improving posture by relaxing muscles that attach the spine to the hips.
