I am delighted to announce that I have accepted the position of Group Leader with the Integrated Communications team at Real Chemistry, a global health innovation company.
After a career in neurology, followed by 19 years as a medical reporter in TV news, I begin my new professional venture in coaching healthcare and life sciences communications on September 7, 2021.
I’m excited to be joining Mike Huckman, Barbara Pinto, and colleagues. I look forward to contributing my background, knowledge, and experience to the Real Chemistry and its clients.

Dear friends and viewers,

Thank you for welcoming me into your home and hands for the past 19 years. Whether on TV or through your phone, it has been an honor and privilege to reach you and be part of your screen time as Dr. Maria.

From 9/11 being one of my first news experiences to the COVID-19 pandemic being one of my last, these big stories will be the bookends to my news career with many fulfilling volumes of countless patient journeys and medical innovations in between. I appreciate all the people in the midst of dire, challenging, and painful illnesses who have taken the time to share their brave stories with me.

I’m off to new adventures, but I won’t be far away. This page will be quiet for a while, but I hope to be back soon with a new and different twist.
