🐾I never wanted a second dog on my own. 
Sydney was always enough of a handful and the right amount of work. 

Then came Franklin.
Starved, reactive and holding a story I could only imagine.

💣When I first realized he was a love bomb, I had many moments of regret. 

Although I insisted on keeping him because I knew he wouldn’t get the care he needed, I questioned my decision.

Memories of how he was always used as a pawn against me in a fight flooded my brain. 

😠The frustration and expense of having a traumatized, incredibly anxious dog on top of a senior, arthritic, diabetic one. 

💔The feelings of failure when I couldn’t get enough training in to help him.
🩹The injuries to Sydney from his behaviors. 

My heart ached to travel but I couldn’t go anywhere without them.

🤯Anger filled me and my nervous system was tired. 

🥰Then I realized that I needed him as much as he needed me. 

Allowing myself to embrace the change and realize the gift instead of the burden.
💜The unconditional love. 
💜The joy when I see them play together. 
💜The snuggles, hugs, kisses and shakes.

😂The moments of pure dog ridiculousness. 
💕The thrill of knowing that this dog has also learned what love is…and is not. 
He didn’t understand pets or belly rubs when he joined my life. ☹️

The comfort when I need a hug or a good cry.…like last night.

✨The lessons I’ve learned.
✨The resilience I’ve built. 
✨The time spent on me while taking care of them. 
✨The renewed belief in my own strength.

Slowing down enough to notice. 
Listening to the cues of my own nervous system and honoring my needs.

I wouldn’t change a thing.

Primal Defense-Spotting your Red Zone 🔴

We’ve been talking about noticing reactions & sensations over the past week.
Let’s dig a little deeper into our understanding our nervous system responses.

🔴 The Red Zone: STOP. Shutdown & Overwhelmed
Our nervous system acts like an internal stoplight, slamming the brakes when it finds itself in the Red Zone.
This primal response tells us to STOP and rest when life feels too overwhelming or unsafe.
This is more than anxiety and isn’t a sign of laziness. It’s survival.

Signs you might be hitting the Red Zone:
🛑 Feeling heavy, utter depletion, too tired to move.
🛑Brain fog, numbness, feeling mentally "checked out"
🛑Withdrawal, deep apathy, hopelessness
The only way to move to the Yellow phase is to find stillness and safety.
