🤰🏼Pregnant moms or friends of pregnant moms – stop your scroll!

SWIPE ➡️ to learn how to ease Symphysis p***s dysfunction (SPD or pelvic girdle pain/lightning crotch).

According to The Journal of the Canadian Chiropractic Association, 31.7% of pregnant women have experienced SPD!

The p***c symphysis helps keep the pelvis together and steady, and during pregnancy, the ligaments become stretchy or relaxed, which can lead to instability, discomfort, or a shooting or aching pain in the pelvic joint and other areas of the lower body.

Regular chiropractic adjustments by a specialized prenatal chiropractor help balance the pelvis and optimize spinal position, easing your pregnancy discomfort woes. 😊

⭐️ Our chiros at @‌rootschiropractic in Pittsburgh, PA, are Perinatal + Webster Technique Certified and ready to help! (The Webster Technique is a diagnostic system and pregnancy chiropractic adjustment technique)

Do you need pelvic health PT after a C-section?
Short answer: Yes. 🙌

A cesarean birth doesn’t skip the work pregnancy asks of your body. The pelvic floor still carries months of increased load. Your breathing patterns still adapt. Your posture, core, and pressure system all shift long before surgery even happens.

Then add abdominal surgery.

Scar tissue, changes in core coordination, altered breathing mechanics, and nervous system response all influence how your body heals and moves postpartum. That can show up as pain, weakness, leaking, constipation, fear of movement, or simply not feeling connected to your core.

Pelvic health PT after a C-section can help restore how your system works together, not just strengthen one muscle group. It supports healing, movement, and confidence as you return to daily life and exercise.

Needing pelvic health support isn’t about how your baby was born.

It’s about supporting a body that grew, adapted, and healed.

Breastfeeding was harder than I expected, and I say that as an IBCLC.

Before I started, I thought if I prepared enough, it would feel intuitive. What I didn’t realize is how much of breastfeeding is learned in real time, while you’re healing, exhausted, and figuring out your baby.

Here are a few things I wish I’d known sooner:

🔹 Pain isn’t something you’re supposed to power through. Get help early.

🔹 Positions like laid-back or side-lying can completely change a feed.

🔹 Hand expression early on can protect supply and give your body a break.

🔹 Your milk doesn’t “come in”. You have exactly what your baby needs in those first few days (colostrum), and copious milk production won’t start for a few days after birth (usually between 3-7). Monitor their diapers to know they’re getting enough!

🔹 The goal is never perfection, it is about finding something that works for your family. 🩷

If you’re in it right now and thinking “why didn’t anyone tell me this,” you’re not alone. Support shouldn’t make this feel harder.

👉 Save this for later
👉 Share with a new or expecting parent
👉 And reach out early if something feels off.

You don’t have to figure this out on your own. Reach out to us if you need lactation support!

Let’s talk about something so common but rarely discussed: 🚩power p*eing, the habit of pushing or forcing urine out to empty faster.

While it might feel efficient in the moment, it can actually work against your pelvic floor and bladder health.

Here’s why power p*eing isn’t ideal:

🔸 It increases downward pressure

Bearing down repeatedly can strain the pelvic floor and lower abdominal wall over time, especially if you are navigating prolapse symptoms, pelvic pressure or diastasis recti.

🔸 It disrupts your bladder’s natural coordination

Your bladder is designed to contract when it is time to empty. When you push, you override that reflex which can lead to incomplete emptying or confusion between urgency and control.

🔸 It can contribute to pelvic floor dysfunction

Chronic straining can irritate pelvic floor muscles which may contribute to symptoms like hesitancy, dribbling, urgency, pelvic pain or feeling like you cannot fully relax to void.

So what can you try instead?

✨ Strategies for an easier, more complete, pressure friendly p*e:

✔️ Diaphragmatic breathing

Slow belly and rib expansion helps your pelvic floor relax so urine can release without force.

✔️ Rock gently forward and back

This changes the angle of the urethra and bladder and helps gravity do more of the work.

✔️ Stand up then sit back down

If your stream stops early but you still feel like there is more to empty, this resets the pelvic floor and bladder reflex.

✔️ Take your time

Rushing often leads to straining. Giving your body a few more seconds can support a more complete emptying.

If this feels familiar, you are not alone.

Pelvic health PT can help you understand why power p*eing is showing up, teach you how to void without strain and support long term bladder and pelvic floor health.

The 4th trimester doesn’t get nearly enough attention. 🫶🏼

Those first 3 months after birth? Your body is healing, your baby is adjusting, and both of your nervous systems are in major transition.

Here’s what we know: When alignment is supported during this phase, everything gets easier. Babies sleep better, feed better, and cry less. Moms heal faster and feel stronger.

Our Story

Dr. Shadley Centofanti first became interested in chiropractic while she was in high school after she sustained a back injury at a soccer tournament. She was never one to take medication for pain, and she was drawn to the natural and holistic field of chiropractic. After experiencing relief of her back pain within a few visits, she was intrigued and decided to look further into becoming a chiropractor. She first decided to enroll at Michigan State University where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. After that, she continued to pursue a career in chiropractic by attending Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2017. Dr. Shadley is Webster Certified by the ICPA, and she is a Certified BIRTHFIT Professional. Dr. Shadley has a special interest in pediatric and prenatal chiropractic patients, and she would love to help you and your family on the road to better health! Dr. Tom Centofanti graduated Cum Laude from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa in 2017. Before that, he was proud to be a Spartan while attending Michigan State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology. Dr. Tom chose chiropractic as his career because he appreciated the natural healthcare model that chiropractic offered. He loves to help people and see their smiling faces when they start feeling the amazing impact that chiropractic care can have on their overall quality of life. Dr. Shadley and Dr. Tom met while in high school, and they continued to date until they got married in 2014. They currently live in Mt. Lebanon and enjoy spending time with their family, taking their dog Ava for walks, and traveling. They especially enjoy football season where they cheer on the Spartans on Saturdays and the Steelers on Sundays!
