📚Books can spark curiosity, connection, and confidence.

This Family Literacy Month, we’re celebrating stories that reflect the diverse experiences and abilities of all children. Every child deserves to see themselves represented in the pages they turn and to learn about others whose experiences may be different from their own.

Throughout November, families visiting our Squirrel Hill location can explore a collection of inclusive children’s books—some personally selected by our President and CEO, Dr. Johanna Vidal-Phelan—that we hope inspire empathy, belonging, and togetherness.

Happy reading! 💝

MEANINGFUL CONNECTIONS MADE 🫶

Occupational Therapist Lexi Tocco (right) joined families in Butler County on Thursday to share tips on helping children learn and grow through everyday activities. Each family also received a special gift bag filled with tools and toys to support play and development at home!

A big thank-you to Beverly's PGH for inviting us to be part of such a wonderful event and for creating opportunities to connect with your amazing community!

At The Children’s Institute, we believe that supporting a child means supporting their entire family.

Our second annual Supporting Families Together Resource Fair connected families across The Day School, outpatient therapies, and family support services with nearly 70 incredible community vendors—offering everything from equine-assisted therapy and personal training to sensory equipment and caregiver support.

A heartfelt thank-you to the vendors, families, and especially our amazing team members whose planning, coordination, and passion made the event such a success this year. You make the difference for families we serve. 🌟

🌟 PLAYGROUND RENOVATION UPDATE

We’re making incredible progress on our new outdoor space!
✅Groundwork is about 70% complete
✅Sidewalks, retaining walls, and underground water systems are taking shape
✅Equipment installation begins soon!

Check out some of the latest ground and aerial photos.

When finished, this innovative new space will include specialized play equipment for children of all abilities, a walking path, shade structures, and a multipurpose sports court—all built to the highest standards of safety and accessibility.

With a little help from the weather, we look forward to playing, learning, and growing together in this space in the spring. 🌳💫

Earlier this month, the generous team at Blackbaud assembled 100 activity kits for our Behavioral Health program! 😌 These kits—filled with Play-Doh, toy cars, and other fun items—will be used during therapy sessions and for kids to take home. We’re so grateful to the members of the Pittsburgh team for making us part of your retreat and for helping spread a little extra joy to the children and families we serve! 🫶
