The Midwife Center for Birth & Women's Health is southwestern Pennsylvania's only licensed and accredited freestanding birth center offering primary gynecological care, prenatal care and childbirth in a warm and supportive birth center. Our goal is to provide safe and satisfying care that is personalized to meet the needs of the client. We are guided by the philosophy that a person should be in control of their own health care, including their birth experience. The Midwife Center accepts the following payment methods for primary gynecological, prenatal and childbirth care:
โ€“ Most PA medical assistance plans, including UPMC for You, Gateway and United Community Plan
โ€“ Most local and national private insurance plans, including UPMC, Highmark*, United and Aetna
โ€“ If you do not have insurance, we can assist you in applying for medical assistance. If you do not qualify for medical assistance you may be eligible for sliding-scale care. The Midwife Center also offers payment plans.

*If you are pregnant and have Highmark, please visit our website at midwifecenter.org or call 412.321.6880 to learn more. Our home-like facility is conveniently located on Penn Avenue in the Strip District. The first floor of our Center houses three nature-themed birth suites, each with its own large bathroom with a whirlpool bath, and our family kitchen. Upstairs is a large waiting room, three exam rooms and administrative offices. Our extensive video and book library is available here as well. Care at our facility is provided by Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who are registered nurses with additional education in midwifery. As all CNMs, our midwives are certified by examination through the American College of Nurse-Midwives or the American College of Nurse-Midwives Certification Council and licensed by the Pennsylvania Board of Medicine. TMC is a private, non-profit practice, supported in part by patient fees, United Way Contributors Choice, and tax-deductible contributions from individuals, businesses and foundations. TMC accepts most insurance plans and is a member organization of Adagio Health, which enables the Center to provide gynecological care to clients for free or on a sliding fee scale based on income and family size. The facility is licensed by the Commission for the Accreditation of Birth Centers (CABC). Please visit our website to learn more about our services, including weekly Wellness Walk-In Fridays program from 12:30-5:00 pm. http://www.midwifecenter.org

10,000 Births: Growing community, one birth at a time ๐Ÿ’œ

Jessica, a two-time Midwife Center client, shared these beautiful photos of her two Midwife Center babies - Consetta, born in 2020, and Ember, born in 2025! Consetta and Ember are two of (nearly) 10,000th babies born at The Midwife Center since we opened in 1982.

As we approach our 10,000th birth, we're celebrating all the life-changing and life-giving stories that each birth represents. Was your birth one of 10,000? We'd love to hear from you! DM us or email k.phillips@midwifecenter.org.

NOTICE FOR TMC CLIENTS: The Midwife Center is open today. If you are driving, there is a pothole on 29th Street near Penn Ave that is being repaired. The best way to get to our parking lot is by taking Smallman Street to 29th Street to Mulberry Way, where you can access our lot. You can also enter via 28th Street but as of this morning, there is a little more snow on that end. Our lot has been cleared, but the best side to park is the downtown side. There is no street parking due to the snow.
