✨Black History Month Spotlight: Servant of God Julia Greeley (~1833-1918)✨

Caregiver. Steward. Problem solver. Julia was born into slavery and emancipated in 1865. Her indomitable compassion guided a life devoted to caring for her community. She delivered food, fuel, and clothing to those in need under the cover of night, so her neighbors would not be embarrassed.

Julia became known at Denver’s Sacred Heart Parish as the “Angel of Charity” – an enduring model of generosity and faith in action.

It's , so we're continuing the celebration of our 125th year! 🕰️

1904: The Orphan Asylum of the Holy Family is officially incorporated on December 7 to care for destitute children "without regard to race, nationality, or religious belief." The following year, the increasing number of children necessitates the construction of a larger building, which Bishop Canevin dedicates on May 21, 1907.

Educator. Activist. Change maker. Sister Thea brought African American culture into Catholic worship and championed racial justice during the Civil Rights Movement.

Today, her legacy continues through the Sister Thea Bowman Black Catholic Education Foundation, supporting scholarships for African American students – including several Nazareth Prep alumni!
