✨ Intern Spotlight: Olivia ✨
What was your favorite part of your internship experience?
“My favorite part of the internship was working alongside a diverse group of minds who encouraged me to think critically and share my input confidently. My co-interns inspired collaboration, efficiency, and a growth mindset that made every project more meaningful. I also appreciated being pushed out of my comfort zone, learning about the business side of healthcare through budgeting, financial allocation, fundraising, networking, and sponsorships.
Returning to Pittsburgh after college brought a renewed sense of purpose. Growing up here, I understood the city’s character, but engaging in direct outreach deepened my connection. Teaching community members about bone and joint health, connecting them with providers, and offering on-site screenings grounded my passion for meeting patients where they are and addressing care barriers at their root.”
What’s one thing you learned that surprised you?
“What surprised me most was discovering how crucial bone and joint health is throughout life—not just in older adults. I learned that movement, nutrition, and grip strength play key roles in preventing injury and maintaining independence, underscoring the need to promote musculoskeletal wellness from a young age.”
How has this internship shaped your career goals?
“This internship strengthened my communication, organization, and leadership skills while broadening my understanding of healthcare’s many dimensions. I met inspiring individuals across nonprofit, clinical, and community spaces whose dedication continues to motivate me as I prepare for medical school.”
What advice would you give to future interns?
“To future interns, I’d say—don’t be afraid to be wrong. Growth thrives on feedback and collaboration. Ask questions, take initiative, and lean into discomfort—it’s often where the most meaningful learning happens!” 💙
Thank you for an amazing summer, Olivia! We’ll miss you and wish you all the best as you take the next steps toward your medical career. 🌟
