You can correct and nitpick until the cows come home (whatever that means) but they'll still be flawed, imperfect humans who screw up from time to time.

All the consequences, punishments, and discipline in the world won't make them infallible. But good news! They don't need to be!

I'm not perfect. You're not. But we are GOOD and that's enough.

The kids? They're good too. Sure, they make heaps of messes and forget their school books and track mud in the house and fuss about chores and homework. They bicker and complain and never lift the toilet seat. (Just mine?)

But you know what? I'm messy and forgetful. I fuss about chores and work. I complain and grumble.

If you wanted to focus on my flaws, you'd have plenty to chew on. But I hope instead that you see my VALUE. My goodness. My heart.

And that's all these kids are hoping for too.

We all make mistakes, and constant correction won’t stamp out our children’s humanity any more than it will stamp out our own.
