👉🏻 Use artificial tears (we love preservative-free ones!)
👉🏻 Using a humidifier at night when you sleep
👉🏻 Applying a warm compress to your eyes

Holiday travel plans? ✈️ Don’t forget about your eyes! 👀

Here are 3 eye care tips to keep in mind while traveling this season:

✨ Wear your glasses for overnight travel – If you’re flying or driving overnight, give your eyes a break and opt for glasses instead of contacts. Sleeping in contacts can lead to dryness and irritation.

✨ Pack travel-size contact solution – Heading through TSA? Be sure to bring a travel-sized contact lens solution so you’re prepared and compliant while on the go.

✨ Bring artificial tears on the plane – Airplane cabins are extra dry and can leave your eyes feeling uncomfortable. Artificial tears are a must-have to keep your eyes hydrated during your flight.

Meet Dr. Joseph Scherer, MD 👨‍⚕️✨

Dr. Scherer is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist who has been proudly caring for patients in the South Hills for over 20 years.

He completed his medical training at Memorial University of Newfoundland, followed by an internship at Yale New Haven Hospital and an ophthalmology residency at the University of Pittsburgh Eye & Ear Institute!

Dr. Scherer specializes in advanced small-incision cataract surgery, using premium lens implant technologies to help patients see their best. Dr. Scherer also provides comprehensive eye care, including glaucoma treatment and laser care, diabetic eye disease management, and treatment of age-related eye conditions such as macular degeneration.

In addition to caring for patients, Dr. Scherer has been deeply committed to education and service—serving as a surgical teacher for the University of Pittsburgh ophthalmology residency program for over two decades, publishing in leading ophthalmology journals, and participating in ophthalmology mission work in Honduras.
