Matt is the heart of our organization. It’s so nice to see him get a shout out!

We are grateful for our adjunct faculty who support our students with their tremendous expertise. Today we highlight and applaud Matthew D. Ford, M.S., CCC-SLP for his 16 years of serving as an educator at Duquesne University!

Mr. Matt Ford serves as the Clinical Coordinator of the Cleft-Craniofacial Center at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. He has served on the Cleft Team since 1997. Matt serves the Cleft-Craniofacial team’s senior speech pathologist with experience in the diagnosis and treatment of structurally related speech production and feeding/swallowing disorders. He has an appointment as Clinical Instructor of Surgery in the School of Medicine, Department of Plastic Surgery contributing to the training of future Plastic surgeons. He is a Field Instructor for multiple universities in the local region.

He participates in ongoing research with individuals affected by cleft and craniofacial anomalies and has lectured both nationally and internationally. Matt has many peer reviewed publications and has contributed to multiple book chapters focusing on Cleft and Craniofacial Anomalies. He has served as treasurer on the board of the Pennsylvania Speech and Hearing Association. Matt is a past President of the Pennsylvania Federation of Cleft Palate Clinics. He currently is the chair of the Family Services Committee for the American Cleft Palate Craniofacial association.

I'm terribly sad to share that the coronavirus pandemic has taken its first victim from the craniofacial surgery community.

Dr. James Goodrich, chief of Neurosurgery at Albert Einstein, Montefiore in New York City was a giant in the field who advanced the field of conjoined twin separation by decades.

My deepest condolences to his family, friends, colleagues and patients around the world.

Dr. James T. Goodrich, the neurosurgeon who allowed CNN inside a remarkable operation to separate twins Jadon and Anias McDonald, died on Monday after complications related to Covid-19, according to the hospital where he worked.
