7 year old Lena was having trouble getting up the stairs, climbing onto the couch and into bed, and was limping on her back left leg. Lena’s veterinarian recommended trying chiropractic.

⏭️ after the first visit, she was climbing onto the couch and the limping had resolved.
⏭️⏭️ after the second visit, she started climbing onto the bed again! (She even wags her tail at the end of her visit!)

We love helping pets do the things they love! 🐾

November is National Senior Pet Month, a month dedicated to celebrating senior cats and dogs. Senior pets can offer so much love, loyalty and companionship to pet owners!

Dr. Lacy loves working with senior pets and has helped them continue to do the things they love like going on walks or climbing onto the couch to be next to their favorite human 🐶🐱 she has worked with countless dogs, ages 12-16. The most common phrases heard from pet parents are “he/she is acting 10 years younger” and “he/she hasn’t done that in years!”

We recommend wellness “tune ups” for seniors to kee them feeling their best!

The first time Dr. Lacy met Buddy he was bedridden and couldn’t use his hind legs. His parents said he had an MRI and was diagnosed with a fibrocartilaginous embolism. The emergency vet recommended rehabilitation to give him the best chance at walking again. His parents tried to schedule aquatic therapy but the equipment was being serviced. Their last resort was seeing Dr. Lacy for chiropractic therapy. After the first visit, Dad said Buddy was able to stand on all four paws for 10 minutes without assistance. After the second visit, no more knuckling with the right hind leg. Three years later and now Buddy is enjoying walking a mile (and more) around his neighborhood.

Oaks was a big fan of TMJ traction today 🐴

The TMJ has two primary functions: mastication and balance.

The TMJ is highly innervated, and consists of structures that dictate a horse’s balance and sensory perceptions. There is an intricate web of information weaving throughout the TMJ, throat latch, and poll that directly affect biomechanics and neurology of the whole horse.

💥 Indications of possible TMJ dysfunction:
• pain/sensitivity around the ears
• uneven tooth wear
• inability to shift the mandible from side to side
• clicking sound while chewing
• chewing more on one side or always chewing in the same direction
• dropping large amounts of food when eating
• taking longer than normal to complete a meal
• passing whole food through the manure
• throwing head while riding
• difficulty taking the bit

A neuromuscular dentist is key to the health of your horse’s TMJ. And addressing any injuries or restrictions to the neck, shoulder and jaw with body work can help relieve tension and promote proper function. 🌟
