Early in her inpatient pharmacy career at UPMC, Amanda had a moment she'll never forget. While delivering medications on the hospital floors, a physician mistook her for a CNA and ask her to take a patient's vitals—sparking a wave of imposter syndrome she had battled for years.
With her confidence shaken, she replied, "I'm just a pharmacy technician." What happened next changed everything. The physician, recognizing the thoughts swirling through Amanda's mind, looked her in the eye and said: "You are not just a pharmacy technician. What you do is vital. None of this would be possible without you. Don't ever forget that."
These words became a driving force in Amanda's career, and a message she now shares with others across UPMC.
Today, Amanda serves as a Program Manager for Pharmacy Technician Training, helping standardize education, expand opportunities, and elevate the essential role pharmacy technicians play in every care setting.
Her message to others, whether they're years into their careers or just starting out, remains the same: No one is "just" anything. Every role matters. Every person matters.
We're proud to spotlight Amanda for her leadership, resilience, and unwavering commitment to lifting others up, just as someone once did for her.
