CLIENT CORNER! Joel* had difficulty making friends at school. He often felt he couldn’t relate to his peers because of their different life experiences. Joel’s Supports Coordinator researched youth groups in his community and helped him choose one where he felt comfortable. Within this youth group, Joel has thrived and built meaningful friendships. These friendships have increased his self-esteem and confidence when talking to peers. *Names and images do not reflect actual clients of Familylinks.

This year’s Black History Month marks the 100th anniversary of its observance. This allows us the opportunity to emphasize the importance of remembering and celebrating the contributions of Black Americans. Some notable contributions include: Garrett Morgan, who created a more sophisticated traffic signal; Frederick McKinley Jones, who developed automatic refrigeration equipment used in long-haul trucking; and Marie van Brittan Brown, who created an early version of the modern home security system. These pioneers paved the way for a safer, healthier future.

CLIENT CORNER! Staff and clients at one of our residential sites were recently displaced due to a facilities issue. Emergency accommodations were made at another one of our facilities, and staff and clients were relocated. What could have been chaotic and disruptive for clients was treated as a learning opportunity by our dedicated staff. Clients practiced social skills with a different peer group and learned how to treat the home of a friend or family member they were visiting. Thanks to the professionalism and appropriate modeling skills by staff, clients in both programs experienced minimal disruption while continuing to work towards their individual goals.

This year’s Safer Internet Day theme focuses on artificial intelligence (AI). While AI can be a helpful tool for focusing our thoughts or tracking important data, it can also be used maliciously. Every day AI is getting more refined and harder to identify and is increasingly being used to create scam emails. If you receive an email that creates a sense of urgency, please do not click any links or call any phone numbers without verifying the sender. Help keep you and your family safe by using safer internet practices.

CLIENT CORNER! Today’s Client Corner is special because it features a firsthand account from one of our clients. Names have been omitted for privacy. “ I would like to inform you of my extraordinary care at Familylinks. For years, other doctors have given me medication but never helped me find a solution, and barely checked in. My doctor at Familylinks checks in weekly. She truly understands my mental health needs. Through Familylinks’ collaboration with my medical doctors, previously unknown conditions were identified and treated. I would compare my doctor to a gardener who, when presented with withering flowers and overgrown weeds, took the time to cultivate a beautiful garden. People like me need extraordinary doctors like her.”

February is American Heart Month, and National Wear Red Day is Friday, February 6, 2026. Each year, heart disease and stroke kill more women than all forms of cancer combined. Tomorrow, wear red to be seen, to be counted, to be heard, and to make an impact. Together, we are stronger than heart disease and stroke.

Happy Groundhog Day, everyone! 🐾☀️

Today’s the day we let a groundhog “predict” the weather — and it looks like we are in for six more weeks of winter 🌷❄️

Whether or not Phil saw his shadow, it’s a fun little tradition and a good reminder that warmer days are coming. 😊

What were you hoping for — more winter or an early spring? 👇

CLIENT CORNER! Lucian* was nearing the end of his stay at a residential treatment facility. While there, he made great progress, meeting all his treatment goals. Lucian’s Support Coordinator identified a residential home funded by a waiver. Lucian, and his treatment team decided that it would be an environment in which Lucian would continue to thrive. Once admitted, Lucian had the opportunity to personalize his room, is doing well with his roommates, and has had a successful start at a new school. *Names and images do not represent actual clients of Familylinks.
