CLIENT CORNER! Liza’s* housing was disrupted when her father fell ill, and she was unsure where to stay. She was referred to Familylinks’ Downtown Outreach Center and Shelter. While there, Liza was set up with a psychiatrist and a medical doctor to ensure her health needs were met. Staff worked with Liza to obtain housing and secure her disability payments. Within two months, Liza was able to locate and move into her first apartment.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT! Janna Miller is a Housing Coordinator for the ARIA Housing Program and has held this role for 3 years. In her role, Janna supports families with ongoing case management after helping them to find housing and establishing a rental assistance schedule. Janna takes pride in being able to assist families when they need it most and in helping them avoid disruption. In her free time, Janna enjoys spending time with her children, being in nature, and immersing herself in good music.

Dan* had a dream of living in his own home. He had been meeting all his goals in his residential setting, but was recommended to receive 14 hours of supportive services a day if he were to live in his own house. His Supports Coordinator through Familylinks was able to efficiently and effectively secure approval for the recommended in-home supports, and Dan moved into a home close to a family member. Dan’s family states that they haven’t seen Dan this happy in years, and they are grateful for the speed with which the Supports Coordinator was able to make the needed connections. *Names and images do not reflect actual clients of Familylinks

CLIENT CORNER! Gayle and her husband, Dean, were identified for Community Health Worker (CHW) support due to Dean’s declining health. Gayle was beginning to experience exhaustion and depression as a result of caring for Dean’s spinal injury and early-stage dementia. Their CHW was able to connect them with hygiene supplies to offset additional costs, as well as connect Gayle to a support group for caregivers of those with dementia. Gayle reports a sense of relief and renewed energy to continue supporting Dean in accessing the best care.

Familylinks’ Halloween party was a big success! Understanding that the youth and young adults we serve may not have had the chance to be “kids,” our Youth and Family Services managers, led by DeJuan Goulde, put together a spooky good time of trick-or-treating, games, and pizza!

CLIENT CORNER! Deondre* struggled with low self-esteem and often felt he’d never fit in because he was differently abled. With support from Familylinks’ outpatient mental health services, he began working through those feelings and developing a stronger sense of self. Over time, Deondre has learned to recognize his strengths, respond to challenges in healthy ways, and find purpose in his unique abilities.
