Erythema Ab Igne, more commonly known as Toasted Skin Syndrome, appears as a reddish-brown, net-like rash. It's caused by overexposure to low-level heat sources, such as heating pads, laptops, space heaters, and seat warmers. That rash is the result of heat damage to blood vessels, leading to redness, itching, and sometimes burning.

While the condition typically resolves itself once the heat source is removed, repeated exposure can increase the likelihood of developing squamous cell carcinoma, a form of skin cancer.

To be safe, resist the urge to sit too close to heat sources, keep a safe barrier between skin and laptops, and take frequent breaks from electric blankets and heating pads.
