Just another kudos to UPMC for stellar service. My mom is currently in the hospital. I’m in daily. I talk to the quarterback Dr daily. We’ve been waiting for certain labs to come back and the C word was the worst case scenario.
I just got a call, “This is Hillman Cancer Center calling to schedule Norma’s first appointment.”
“My mother has cancer and this is how you’re telling me?”
“I don’t know what the appointment is for. It just says to schedule her.”
Excuse me? I called the charge nurse to see what is happening. “We have no caretaker on file to call. We can’t tell you anything.”
Really? Only been in 6-8 hours a day and spoken with every nurse and doctor and fed you cookies for a week.
My mother has everything but cancer.
It’s for a blood issue that needs to be done via Hillman. Who at UPMC comes up protocol for how to interact with the public? Don’t you think you should announce WHAT is being scheduled if you call instead of announcing CANCER?
UPMC, do better.
(Staff is always great, this is a management/policies/procedures issue coming from the top)
Not to mention that if you arrive after 8pm they make you park on the opposite side of the property and enter through emergency. So, if you’re an older person going to see your loved one you’re already worried about, don’t worry, we will make you walk to the main entrance only to discover you still have to walk another 1/3 a mile in rainy, cold weather. No signs when you pull in to park stating you must enter halfway across Fox Chapel. No signs. Zero signs. Just more surprises.
And, even though the strip mall and everyone else in FC has free parking, we are going to make you pay for the privilege to get your steps in.
UPMC, brilliant.
