👁️ Community Vision Day is back!

This past weekend, the University of Pittsburgh Department of Ophthalmology came together for another successful Community Vision Day, providing free eye exams and essential healthcare services to both insured and uninsured community members.

A special highlight of the event was the distribution of hygiene kits made possible through the combined contributions of the Department of Ophthalmology and the Brother's Brother Foundation With generous support from both organizations—and hands-on participation from department members—each kit was thoughtfully assembled to include essential items that promote the health, dignity, and well-being of our community.

We’re inspired by the dedication, teamwork, and compassion of everyone involved—reminding us all of the power of coming together to make a meaningful difference. Thank you to all who contributed to this impactful day!

✨ What an incredible day at the UPMC Vision Institute!

This weekend marked first-ever Community Vision Day, which had people coming from across Pittsburgh and surrounding communities to receive free eye exams, new glasses, screenings, and vital vision care services — no cost, no barriers. 👓💜

None of this would have been possible without our remarkable volunteers — clinicians, staff, students, and community partners who dedicated their time and expertise to help others regain, protect, and maintain their sight. Your compassion is what makes events like this truly life-changing. 👁️✨

Some amazing highlights from Mission of Mercy! 👓💜

On October 24–25, Pittsburgh’s eye care community came together to support our neighbors in need — and the impact was incredible. We prescribed and ordered 645 pairs of glasses, diagnosed degenerative eye diseases, and connected patients with follow-up care at our upcoming Community Vision Day on December 6.

In total, we served 390 Pittsburghers on Friday and 388 on Saturday — but behind every number is an individual whose life was changed through restored vision and compassionate care. 💫

Storytime: Living with vision loss isn’t always what people expect.

For many, it’s not total blindness—it’s struggling with everyday things like reading a menu, recognizing faces, or navigating new places, even with glasses or contacts.

Vision impairment changes daily life in ways you might not see at first glance.
