POWER http://power-recovery.com More than 23 million Americans suffer from alcoholism and drug addiction, but only 11% receive treatment.

Women are the fastest-growing segment of substance users in the United States, with an estimated 2.7 million women abusing drugs or alcohol. Most women (66-90%) in treatment report histories of trauma, which may include domestic violence, early childhood sexual assault, physical abuse or neglect, loss of a child, or other traumatic experiences. Our staff is trained to understand the impact of trauma on recovery and our care reflects that understanding.

The holidays remind us that recovery doesn’t happen alone.

At POWER, healing begins with community, care, and connection — and continues because of your support.
Thank you for being part of the POWER family this season.

POWER’s neighbors, Ladies of Charity of Word of God Parish, have long been supporters of POWER. When Word of God merged with several other churches to form St. Joseph the Worker Parish, Ladies of Charity merged with Ladies of Charity groups at several of the other churches. Now their support of POWER has spread to this newer, bigger group. The result was when Gerry Barrett and Corinne Bires delivered their annual holiday gifts, bathrobes for the clients, there were more than ever – a whole lobby-full! Thank you, Ladies of Charity!

The creativity of POWER House residents was on display again when they made gingerbread houses. Volunteer Sue Kelly led the project, supplying the kits and treats and hands-on help. The women supplied the talent for creating lovely things. Thanks, Sue, for making it happen!

Since POWER’s early days, the members of Christ Our Savior Parish have been doing something special for POWER clients. They’ve bought the gifts their kids have requested so the moms are able to give their children what they wanted for Christmas. This year they provided for 58 kids; this is the parish’s Jeanine Ayers among some of them, including the gift wrapping she liked best. Thank you to all the parish members for their kindness and generosity.

For 32 years the members of Delta Kappa Gamma, Theta Chapter, have bought holiday gifts for POWER clients. This year the tradition continued, with DKG members bringing a shopping bag and a shower caddie for each woman, both of them overflowing with gifts. DKG members are devoted to POWER; the gifts are a chapter priority that they begin working on every summer. How lucky we are to have the dedication of these great women!

Once again the POWER House women enjoyed a traditional home-cooked meal on Thanksgiving Day, made by Shawnel Calloway and her mother Michelle Calloway. They also brought gifts for the women donated by members of Shawnel’s Sunday School class at Rodman Street Missionary Baptist Church. Thank you, Shawnel and Michelle, for all your hard (and delicious) work!

Addiction doesn’t affect everyone the same way — and that includes women.
At POWER, we understand the unique challenges women face in recovery. That’s why our programs are designed specifically with women in mind — offering trauma-informed care, compassion, and support at every step of the journey.

Addiction treats women differently. So do we.

There were gifts, food, and plenty of love and encouragement for POWER House women at Brenda Lowry’s annual holiday event. Brenda and her friends brought a tableful of gifts and a delicious meal, plus they shared their experiences and inspired everyone there. Thank you to all of them and especially Benda, who has done so much for POWER women.
