The colder, darker days of winter leave some feeling anxious, negative, insecure, fearful, even depressed. Emotions are influenced by the seasons—no matter what climate you live in.
This post provides non-food tips (although everything is feeding you). adapting your diet for winter will positively impact your mind & emotions. Read post Winter Nutrition & Health Tips @ wholehealthresources.com
Many foods contribute to all negative emotional states. Do not underestimate the power of food to heal you in body/mind.
Learn & practice deep diaphragmatic breathing—5-10 minutes 3 or more times daily
connect with an emotional & spiritual support system. Be a good listener & uplifter to each other
Work & play at a creative project. Choose something you know you can be successful at
Plant an indoor garden
Cultivate friendships with those who are warm & compassionate: be that person yourself
Get deep massage or other therapies for releasing physical & emotional tension & revitalizing body/mind
Try downhill or cross country skiing; ice skating; build a snowman. Walking is beneficial in every season. outdoor activity can be mentally & physically invigorating & uplifting
Meditate at least 10 minutes daily. No mind…state of presence…simply breathing and being. Doing so will elevate your mind, emotions, spirit.
Diffuse uplifting essential oils
Turn on some music and sing and/or dance (yes, even if you are home alone)
Journal — write your vision for your life, or for this year, or this month, or for today. How do you want to feel and experience your life?
Slow down, relax, and get enough sleep (you need more in winter)
Believe in yourself; build a loving & accepting relationship with self
Release resistance (accept that winter is the time to relax, slow down, rest, nourish & nurture self
Seek professional counseling if needed.
