We are proud to welcome Teresa K. Woodruff, Ph.D. as the keynote speaker at the 2022 Conference of the Oncofertility Consortium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania! Dr. Woodruff is an internationally recognized biologist specializing in reproductive science. In 2006, she coined the term “oncofertility” to describe the merging of two fields: oncology and fertility preservation. Working at the national level, Woodruff championed the new National Institutes of Health (NIH) policy mandating the inclusion of females in fundamental research. In collaboration with Magee-Womens Research Institute & Foundation, the Oncofertility Consortium Conference will be held over three days, where the community of oncologists, reproductive endocrinologists, research scientists, allied health professionals, humanities scholars, students, advocates, and patients will come together to develop the most cutting-edge initiatives in caring for patients within the oncofertility specialty. Join us as we make this year the best year yet for our patients and field of research, science, and medicine.

With a cancer diagnosis, everything changes. Priorities shift. Things you wouldn’t normally think about for a long time become immediately important, like having children. It was one of these life-changing moments that Barbara, mom of Riley, experienced when her son was diagnosed with leukemia days after his 8-year-old well-visit with his pediatrician. After Riley’s oncologist shared that his cancer treatment may leave him infertile, Barbara knew she needed to do something.

The Fertility Preservation Program was Barbara and Riley’s saving grace, offering fertility preservation options under a research protocol. Throughout the world, there are currently no clinical fertility preservation options for pre-pubertal patients who are not yet producing eggs or s***m, which makes the research and procedures happening at the Fertility Preservation Program so important and ground-breaking.
