Dwyer, the original business was in a storefront on Peck’s Rd. at a time when the funeral wake was held in the family home. In 1914 the business moved to Wahconah St. and Simon was joined by his son, F. After the passing of Simon in 1920, Emmett moved to the present location at 776 North St. The first floor of this building was made into what would be one of the first funeral homes in Western Massachusetts, giving families the option of having a wake at the funeral home instead of the family home. Dwyer Sr. grew up at the funeral home and became licensed in 1956. Robert Sr. passed on December 25, 2019. Robert Dwyer Jr. who became licensed in 1992 and was a partner with his father, took over the family business after his father's passing. From holding positions on various boards and committees to supporting local organizations and charities, the Staff of the Dwyer Funeral Home is extremely proud to serve the community. In 2017 the Dwyer's lost a valued staff member who was like family, Roger Nilan. In 2019 the Dwyer's purchased Wellington Funeral Homes, adding two additional locations to the Dwyer Family Funeral Homes: One in Pittsfield next to Pittsfield High School and the second on Main St. in Dalton, MA. The Dwyer Funeral Home has a large staff, ensuring that each family will get the personal and caring attention that they deserve at a time when it matters most. As we prepare to celebrate our 120th anniversary, we would like to thank the community that has supported and placed their trust in the Dwyer family. We look forward to serving you for generations to come.
