Today, November 12th, 2025, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officer program presented the acclaimed “One Pill Can Kill” presentation to nearly 700 students at Ponderosa High School. Deputy Freeman, assisted by fellow School Resource Officers from the Sheriff’s Office, Chaplains from the Sierra Chaplaincy, and Fire Personnel from El Dorado County Fire provided an immersive experience through live action and video. This presentation aims to highlight the nationwide epidemic surrounding fatal fentanyl overdoses through education. The “One Pill Can Kill” presentations started in 2024 and have been presented at Oakridge High School, Union Mine High School and now Ponderosa High School. Additional presentations are being planned for the other local area high schools. If you have a student who attends these schools, please discuss the presentation with them and the dangers of fentanyl.

On Monday, November 17th, there will be a special presentation for parents about this program. A short recap video will be played, followed by a question-and-answer session with a former narcotics detective, an El Dorado County Deputy District Attorney responsible for prosecuting fentanyl related cases, and other community members. The Sheriff’s Office is inviting the community to attend the presentation in the Ponderosa High School Library from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
