We are rounding the last corner on an incredible 12 days of exploration, adventure, and learning in Ecuador and the Galapagos with my team
(I’m on this trip in preparation for a student group I get to lead here in January. So amazing, right?)

I’ve been knocked around before by the overwhelming beauty of the world. I’m no stranger to natural wonders, beautiful wildlife, and generous humans. Ecuador and the Galapagos is next level. Maybe it’s some middle of the planet energy along the equator. Maybe it’s the well-protected ecosystems on the islands and the birthplace of our understanding of evolutionary development (a concept that drew me to studying biology in the first place). Maybe it’s the tidal pull of the full moon last week. Maybe it’s the unique endemic reptiles, plants and all the abundant creatures that visit. Maybe it’s a place that reminds us we are all part of this planet and we aren’t above the forces of nature that govern here. Maybe there is a bigger mystery. No matter, it’s magnificent.

I think that perhaps my job is to fall in love with the world, over and over again and in some way give permission for others to do the same. ❤️
