Ever wonder why ABA is so repetitive? 🔁
If you've ever watched an ABA session, you might notice we practice the same skill many times in a row. To an outsider, it looks like repetition. To a behavioral clinician, it's building mastery. Here's why the "repeat" button is so important in ABA:
✅ Building Brain Pathways: Just like learning a piano scale or a basketball free throw, repetition creates strong neural pathways. We want the response to become "second nature" so our learners have no issues remembering what we've learned!
✅ Achieving Fluency: It’s one thing to know a skill; it’s another to be fluent in it. Repetition helps our learners perform a task quickly and accurately, even with obstacles in the way!
✅Confidence is Key: Success breeds motivation! By repeating a task our learners can do successfully, we provide frequent opportunities for reinforcement (praise, high-fives, or rewards). This builds the "behavioral momentum" needed to tackle harder tasks later.
✅Generalization: We don't just repeat the task in one way. We repeat it with different people, different materials, and in different rooms. This ensures that our learners can use their skills anywhere, not just at the therapy table.
Repetition is simply the bridge to mastery. We’re dedicated to giving every child the consistent support they need until a new skill becomes a permanent part of their unique toolkit. 🔨
