The Final two days - Detox with your DOC - My Why

I started this 7 day detox for a number of reasons. The initial reason was that I wanted to experience what I am recommending to my patients. I think that being able to speak about the process, what to expect and how you might feel is invaluable.

I also wanted to do it for my own health benefit. My entire adult life I have struggled with stomach issues. Many days I feel bloated, gaseous and have abdominal discomfort. This started around the age of 17. Initially it seemed to be only associated with dairy overload. I could have cheese on my sandwiches and sour cream on my potato but if I had an ice cream sundae I knew that I was in trouble. This quickly turned into me not being able to identify why I was having issues. There was no rhyme or reason for my stomach issues. I was seen by a GI doctor that diagnosed it as irritable bowel syndrome and I was seen by an allergy specialist that discovered I had approximately 30 food allergies. one of which was lettuce. I never had your traditional food allergy symptoms, no swelling, no breathing issues, it was always gastro complaints. From age 17 to my late 20's I was extremely careful; I carried a notecard with all my allergies in my wallet. Then I started eating whatever I wanted and tried to monitor what was causing the issues. I knew that if I ate "healthy" I would feel better but still had bowel problems at unexplained times. I had just accepted this is how things were going to be. Then after my third child I started having weight issues. I could not get the weight off like I could the first two. I assumed it was that my body just had changed and it was going to take extra effort to get it off. I used the noom app. Weight watchers apps, tried the OMAD (one meal a day) diet, invested in work out apps with temporary benefit. I continued to yoyo and hit higher and higher numbers on the scale. I was beyond frustrated.

When I continued to have trouble I started to research what could be the problem. I kept coming back to the thought it had to be associated with my stomach issues. I looked into food intolerances and the symptoms associated with it. Weight gain, irritability, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, depression, anxiety WOW I thought could this really be my problem. That is when I decided I needed to do an elimination diet. With a traditional elimination diet it is recommended to eliminate all inflammatory foods for 3 weeks or more. I had such a hard time sticking to it. I started on many occasions and never made it past a week. My downfall was always Fun Family Friday, which usually involves homemade cheese popcorn and pizza, and I would fall off my elimination diet. It would take me weeks to get back on it.

I am so excited that I was able to keep with this for the entire 7 days. Fun Family Friday just looked a little different in our house where we focused on Family Movie night with me eating approved foods. This was a great way to jump start my exploration of which foods are causing me so many problems. I feel better after doing the detox. I have more energy, I feel less irritable with my kiddos, no bloating, my cravings for sweets are down and I feel improvement in the inflammation in my muscles and joints.

So what is next? My plan is to continue the elimination diet aspect of this program and slowly introduce foods back into my day to day; I will use core supports or inflammacore for meal replacement nutrients in the morning with my tea to maintain my body's natural ability to detox. The first foods that I plan to reintroduce to my diet are honey, mustard and eggs.

Thank you for letting me share my experience with this with you and I am so excited to continue to share it with my patients that would benefit from this Liver Detox.

Be proud of what you have accomplished in this last week. Focus on the positive steps you have made and let go of the "slip ups" you may have had. Continue to keep a positive mindset because your mindset is your driving force for success. If your mindset incorporates discipline, confidence and grace you can achieve anything you set your mind to.

Day 5- Detox with your DOC - exercise and detox

I wanted to take a moment to discuss the amount of physical activity that is acceptable while you are going through the core restore program. This is an individualized recommendation and will be different for everyone. The program recommends keeping your exercise light and participating in things like yoga, stretching and brisk walking. It is important to evaluate how you are feeling to gauge the intensity of your exercise.

As I had shared in previous posts I struggled with headache and fatigue for the first 3 days. I did little to no physical activity the first 3 day. Yesterday was day 4 and I was able to return to my normal exercise routine and was able to continue today (day 5). Prior to starting this program my body was used to intermittent fasting so I was not experience a calorie deficit that affected my energy after day 3; others this shift in food and intake might be a larger shift and result in more fatigue, for those individuals I would recommend light exercise

Day 5:

Today the core support is causing me to feel more satified which then resulted in me using it as my breakfast (1 scoop) and as my lunch (1 scoop). I feel strongly that if you are not hungry do not eat. I will make sure I have a healthy dinner that leaves me feeling satisfied.

Dr. Rogers and I are pleased to share our weight loss from the first 4 days. We both have decreased our weight by 6 pounds. I am hoping we both will see even more of a decrease in the next few days.

Dr. Rogers wanted me to share that she struggled with the lack of food the first 2 days. Due to fasting only being recommended and not required she chose to supplement with a small amount of food on day one and day two and she has still seen wonderful results. We are both experiencing increase in energy as well and decrease in bloating.

DAY 4 - Detox with your DOC

There are many normal side effects that you can expect while doing a liver detox that are completely normal. I wanted to write this blog to help you from being discouraged if you started a detox and are not feeling your best yet. As toxins leave your body you might feel "off" for a few days. Most people it is one to two days, my experience is that I felt pretty bad for about 3 days and today it day 4 and I feel a lot better.

So what are these symptoms?

1) Headaches and irritability are the most common side effects. This can be from the change from high sugar processed foods to decreasing your caloric intake the first few days. This can also be from a withdrawl from caffeine. The detox recommends no coffee and not black tea. Incorporating green tea with caffeine can help lesson the symptoms of caffeine withdrawl. If you begin to wean yourself off sugar and caffeing before that cleanse this symptoms

2) Nausea and upset stomach This can be from your body not being used to the supplements that are used for detoxification.

3) Fatigue the first few days can be due to your body working to decrease the toxins but is also due to the decrease in calories the first few days. Your body is getting used to becoming fat adapted meaning it needs to use other sources of energy to keep you moving. If your body is not fat adapted when you deprive it of food it tries to send you signals to get you to eat which include fatigue as well as the other symptoms listed above.

So what can you do to reduce these horrible symptoms. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water! Water will help move these toxins along to decrease the effects. Allow yourself to rest! Start the cleanse at the end of the work week to allow yourself time to take care of yourself. Also give it time these symptoms will pass.

Day 4 -

Today it day four and I have a lot more energy than I did yesterday. The headache is not present. I woke up and did my core support and supplements. After my core support shake I did not feel hungry so I followed it with a green tea. I had carrots and strawberries for lunch. For dinner I will have a spinach/arugala salad with fun toppings. My cravings are down and am excited to have almost made it through day 4!

Four down three to go! Half way there!!!

DAY 3 DETOX WITH YOUR DOC!! ALL ABOUT ELIMINATION DIETS

Before we dive into what an elimination diet is we need to talk about the difference between a FOOD ALLERGY and a FOOD INTOLERANCE.

Food Allergy- A food allergy is an immmune response to a certain food. The immune system mistakenly treats a food as a threat. This affects about 1-2% of the adult population. This can trigger symptoms as minor as itching of the mouth to as major as swelling of the face and airways; you may also experience rash or vomiting. This reaction can occur from just as little as one molecule of food. This response usually occurs within 1-2 hours of digesting the food.

Food Intolerance- A food intolerance or sensitivity is when the digestive tract reacts poorly to a specific food and is unable to properly break it down. This affects about 20-30% of the population. An intolerance usually has symptoms of gas, bloating, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, stomach cramping, eczema, depression, weight gain/loss, thyroiid dysfunction, stuffy nose or mucus production. This response can be triggered by either a small amount of food to an entire plate full depending on the severity of the sensitivity. Symptoms may develop within 45 minutes but could take days for the response.

Core Restore acts as a seven day elimination diet by eliminating the most common food that cause sensitivity and inflammation in the body. The two most commmon foods to cause intolerance are gluten and dairy. Others include soy, corn, sugar, alcohol, caffeine, processed foods, peanuts, eggs and occasionally night shade vegetables. This liver detox recommends avoiding all of the above allergens but does not specify to stay away from night shade vegetables.

On average it takes between one and three weeks for your digestive tract to heal from exposure to food you are sensitive to. Once you and your medical provider are satified with your progress it is time to start reintroducing foods to your diet. It is recommended to add one food at a time with at least a three day seperation. You will monitor your symptoms to evaluate the problematic food. I always recommend keeping a journal to document foods and symptoms.

Once your gut is healed you may be able to tolerate foods differently than before the elimination diet due to the decrease in irritation.

Day 3 -

Today we introduced PhytoCore to our daily regimen as well as introduced food back into our diet. Now that we have had two days of the proper nutrients needed to transition the toxins from fat soluble to water soluble it is time to start flushing out system.

Phytocore is made up of...

Artichoke is a substances that increase the volume of secretion of bile from the liver as well as the amount of solids secreted

Silymarin is a bioflavonoid complex found in milk thistle seeds and is used to support and protect the liver

Garlic and Dandelion root work to cleanse the liver

Inositol and methionine are lipotrophic agents that work to transport fat out of the liver

DAY 3 FOR ME:

Today I was excited to add food back into my diet and so was Dr. Rogers. I chose to continue to drink my core support with just water and I made a seperate smoothy for breakfast. My smoothy was made of frozen blueberries and cocounut milk. I had a snack of a banana and carrots that I dipped in a vegetable dip that was made of all approved items on the core restore list. I then fasted through lunch (due to having my yearly physical this evening and had to do fasting labs) and finished with grilled chicken my husband seasoned nicely and asparagus with olive oil.

Today I continued to have liver detox symptoms such as fatigue. These symptoms can be concerning for many and could be a reason someone stops the program early. Tomorrow I will discuss in more detail common symptoms associated with liver detox

DAY TWO - DETOX WITH YOUR DOC

Your liver is the most important organ for clearing out toxins. The liver has a unique ability to decide what is good for the body and what is bad for the body as it passes through and when it comes across a toxin it has the ability to turn a fat soluble toxin into water soluble waste. This is done in two main phases:

Phase 1: Phase one of the process uses enzymes to break down the toxins. There are specific nutrients that are needed to be able to perform this action they are

Vitamin B2, B3, B6, B12, Folic Acid, Glutathione, Flavonoids

The broken down toxins are called intermediary metabolites and can be more harmful to the body than the origional fat soluble toxins so they are quickly sent through phase two to become less toxic.

Phase 2: This is the conjugation phase which means molecules are added to the intermediary metabolites to make then non-toxic and water soluble so they can be eliminated. They are eliminated through the urine and stool. The nutrients needed in phase two are...

Methionine, Cysteine, Magnesium, Glutathione, Vitamins B5, B12, C, Glycine, Taurine, Glutamine, Folic Acid, Choline

Everyone's body has the innate ability to detoxify and eliminate but due to the environment we live in and things we consume it makes it very difficult have a diet that has the necessary nutrients for true detoxification. This is where core restore comes in. It provides the body with all the proper nutrients and a diet guide to help the body restore its innate abilities.

My experience Day 2:

I did wake up with a headache, mild nausea and certain smells being too strong which are all normal symptoms of detoxification. These symptoms slowly lessoned as the day went on and were resolved by the evening.

The small amount of hunger I experienced yesterday was not there.

I am looking forward to Day 3 where I will add food into my diet. The program has provided me with a list of foods that will increase detoxification and foods that will decrease detoxification as well as recipes and shopping lists to make this process more manageable.

Tomorrow morning I will start my day off with a Vanilla Berry Smoothie!

DAY 1 DETOX WITH YOUR DOC!

Doctor Rogers and I started our 7 day journey with Core Restore liver detox! This week I will be posting daily to keep you updated on how our journey is going and what to expect from yours!

Toxins are something we encounter every day through our environment, lifestyle, as well as internal toxins. These toxins vary from pollution, processed foods, alcohol to life stressors. Toxins are unavoidable but giving your body the tools to be able to neutrolize and eliminate these toxins can help you feel better.

The build up of toxins in the body may look different to every individual. It can cause you to feel bloated, constipated, weight gain, hormone inbalance, food intolerances, fatigue, lack of concentration, chronic inflammation along with many other things.

Our liver, with close association to our GI tract, works to remove toxins from the food we eat as well as toxins produced by our metabolic processes. When our digestive tract is not functioning correcctly more of a TOXIC BURDEN is placed on our liver.

Most toxins are fat-soluble. They are attracted to the body's fat cells causing these cells to expand. The fat cells hold the toxins to protect the rest of the body. This 7 day program helps the liver change the fat soluble toxins to water soluble so they can be removed by the kidneys and colon.

There are two main phases to removing toxins. Tomorrow I will discuss these two Phases and how Core restore facilitates detoxification safely.

Wednesday I will discuss how this also acts as an elimination diet for foods that can cause gastric inflammation resulting in food intolerances and decrease in the bodies ability to absorb neutrients.

Day One:

Today was made up of three components using the core support shakes, the alpha base capsules and a suggested fast. You also want to increase your water intake!

Day one and two are about setting the ground work and giving your body the proper nutrients it needs to safely remove the toxins from the body.

As your body starts to detox you may have negative symptoms such as headache, nausea, irritability, congestion or short term fatigue. Do not be alarmed with these symptoms. If they become severe contact us immediately.

While you are going through the liver detox process make sure you get plenty of rest and do not over do your physical activity.

My Day One Experience:

I have been doing intermittent fasting for some time now so I have not struggled with having the two shakes and only the vitamins in terms of feeling hungry. I have had minor side effects of the body starting to detox such as headache and Nausea. Dr. Rogers mainly experienced nausea. She states that she did not feel hungry either.

We both chose the chocolate flavor. It tastes better than most protein powders but definently does not taste like a milkshake :) The powder can be mixed with water, almond milk or coconut milk. My first shake I did water, my second I did coconut milk and the coconut milk tasted better. I am going to pick up almond milk for tomorrow, I will keep you updated on which is the best. If you let it sit too long in the liquid it does become thick so its best to mix it and drink it quickly.

Dr. Rogers and I waited to have out first shake at lunch time and the second at dinner. Tomorrow I plan on doing the same thing. I will start my morning with green tea since that is an approved beverage.

Day one down six to go!

03/08/2022

Losing weight can be an extremely hard and frustrating journey. The frustration can result in self blame and falling off your diet and exercise plan. Understanding how your hormones affect your weight loss help curb frustrations and allow you to make smart choices to enhance your progress.

Three main hormones that fight against weight loss are:
Leptin
Cortisol
Insulin

Leptin is a hormone that creates a fullness feeling. Many overweight individuals have leptin resistance which causes individuals to never feel satisfied and this results in overeating.

Insulin is a hormone that is released in response to the glucose (sugar) in your blood. The higher the glucose the more insulin is released. People that are Insulin resistant (metabolic syndrome or type II diabetics) produce more insulin to get the cells to respond and high insulin results in weight gain. Insulin drives glucose into cells to use as energy, it facilitates extra glucose being stored in the liver and as fat. When the body has high levels of insulin it prevents the body from using fat as energy due to your body constantly being in a storage mode.

Cortisol is a stress hormone that increases your blood sugar to be used as energy. Prolonged elevation due to chronic stress cause weight gain by increasing hunger and promote overeating as well as increasing blood/glucose and insulin resulting in fat storage.

What can you do to help battle these hormones.

- Get plenty of sleep- Lack of sleep decreases leptin and increases cortisol

-Take a brisk 30 minute walk - exercise can naturally decrease the glucose in your blood lowering insulin levels and can also decrease cortisol

-Avoid a high carb diet - the more carbohydrates you eat the higher your blood glucose will be driving your insulin levels up

-Medications can be used to curb your appetite to combat leptin resistance

Schedule a weight loss appointment today to get a personalized plan to reach your health goals!

We stand with Ukraine

I write this message with a heavy heart on behalf of the entire Rogers Medical Team. The events that have transpired in Ukraine hit our medical family extremely hard. Along with many other Americans one of our team members has family members caught in the middle of the tyranny that is occurring.

As women and children leave their husbands, sons, and fathers behind to fight for their home; we all feel helpless watching from afar. We are proud of the people that have stood up to protest this war in Russia and around the world.

If you would like to help Ukraine head to our blog to see charities that you can donate to!
