As always, the brilliant knocks it out of the park. Grief as a receipt of healing.

I had the privilege of hearing her say these words live last night at DePauw University!

Thin privilege is real. And losing it requires grief even if we thoroughly reject the damaging cultural narrative that smaller bodies are better bodies.

Dismantling fat phobia is an essential part of learning how to eat intuitively. We once knew how to listen to our bodies- we weren’t born hating our thighs and restricting food because of it- but the cultural power of anti-fat bias is pervasive and influences us all. In order to listen to our bodies, we must first reject diet culture and any assumption that our value as a human is tied to the size of our body.

Our culture tells us we have to fit into the beauty ideals of the time (that change drastically depending on the era) to keep us caged and continuing to pump billions of dollars into the beauty industry. Your worth is not defined by the appearance of your body.

A series regarding body image. I hear from clients regularly that they want to "love" the appearance of their body rather than hating it. Maybe we look at a different goal? Maybe instead of centering the appearance of your body at all, we look at body neutrality and respect? How does your body act as a vessel in taking you towards meaning and joy and connection in your life? How do you exist in your body and let it inform you of your needs (embodiment) as opposed to how it appears to others?
