Just this week, three women told me they were advised to “wait it out” (by their health providers) until their periods stopped for a full year before discussing hormone therapy.
This is simply not true.
Perimenopause can begin up to 10 years before menopause (yes, TEN years!!) and symptoms like poor sleep, mood changes, no libido, weight gain, and brain fog are not something women need to simply tolerate.
Thoughtful, individualized hormone care is based on symptoms, labs, and physiology — not some arbitrary timeline.
If you feel dismissed or unheard, it doesn’t mean your experience isn’t valid. It means you deserve a more nuanced conversation with a provider who understands the rollercoaster of hormones that accompany perimenopause.
