I think a lot of riders assume that if their horse looks fine, then theyโre fine. And sure, if a horse is just living out in a pasture and not being asked to do much, they probably donโt need a ton of extra support.
But performance horses are working, not simply existing.
When weโre asking them to do things like jump every week, turn hard at speed, collect, sit, extend, school multiple days in a rowโฆ or whatever we ask our horses to do... that adds up. Even if theyโre not lame. Even if theyโre seemingly perfectly healthy.
Every ride creates stress on the body. Thatโs normal. Thatโs part of riding, for both horses and humans.
But if weโre asking more from them physically, it only makes sense to support them physically too.
Support is about keeping them comfortable, consistent, and able to keep doing the job weโre asking them to do.
