Being a teen today comes with real pressure; socially, academically, and emotionally. Big feelings can show up quickly and feel hard to manage.

Our Teen DBT Skills Group provides a supportive space where adolescents learn practical tools for emotion regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness, and healthier communication. These are skills they can use at school, at home, and in relationships.

DBT helps teens slow down reactions, build confidence, and respond more effectively instead of impulsively.

If your teen is struggling with intense emotions, anxiety, self-harm behaviors, or conflict, support is available.

It’s National Sleep Awareness Week, a reminder that sleep isn’t a luxury. It’s one of the most important foundations for mental health.

Quality sleep plays a critical role in mood stability, focus, emotional regulation, and stress management. When we’re not getting enough rest, even small stressors can feel overwhelming. Ongoing sleep difficulties are also closely linked to anxiety, depression, and increased emotional reactivity.

Sleep and stress often go hand in hand. The more overwhelmed we feel, the harder it can be to fall and stay asleep. And the less we sleep, the more challenging it becomes to regulate emotions the next day.

A few small shifts can make a meaningful difference:
• Create a consistent bedtime routine
• Limit screens before bed
• Practice relaxation or mindfulness skills
• Keep a regular sleep and wake time

In therapy, we often incorporate DBT skills like mindfulness and distress tolerance to help calm the nervous system and support healthier sleep patterns.

If stress, anxiety, or racing thoughts are interfering with your rest, you don’t have to manage it alone.

Call our office at 954-477-7455 to schedule a complimentary consult and connect with a clinician. Better sleep can start with better support.

Many people struggle in relationships not because they don’t care but because they care so much that they abandon themselves to keep the peace.

Over time, that leads to resentment, burnout, and emotional distance.

"FAST" is a framework we use in therapy to help people protect their self-respect while staying connected:

✔ Be Fair (F)
✔ Don’t Apologize for having needs (A)
✔ Stick to your values (S)
✔ Be Truthful (T)

💡 Something to try today:
Before responding in a hard conversation, ask yourself:

“If I say this, will I respect myself later?”

In therapy, we help clients practice boundaries that are clear, calm, and relational, especially in families, co-parenting, and long-standing relationship patterns.

You’re allowed to be honest.

You’re allowed to have limits.

And you don’t have to lose yourself to stay connected.

Parenting can feel overwhelming, especially when emotions run high in your home.

Our Parenting with DBT Skills Group helps caregivers learn practical tools to respond rather than react. You’ll gain skills in validation, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and effective communication, all while maintaining clear and consistent boundaries.

When parents model regulation and balance, it changes the emotional climate of the entire family.

You don’t have to figure it out alone. Support and structure can make a meaningful difference.

March is Self-Harm Awareness Month; a time to bring compassion, understanding, and honest conversation to a topic that is often kept in silence.

Self-harm is not about attention. It’s often a coping strategy for overwhelming emotions, distress, or feeling numb. When someone is struggling in this way, what they need most is support, not judgment.

At My Counseling Connections, we believe in creating a space where teens and adults feel safe talking about the thoughts and feelings behind the behavior. Through approaches like Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), individuals can learn practical skills for emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and healthier coping strategies.

If you’re noticing signs of self-harm in yourself or someone you care about, you don’t have to navigate it alone. Early support can make a meaningful difference.

Call our office at 954-477-7455 to schedule a complimentary consult and speak with a clinician about your concerns. We’re here to help.

Eating Disorders Awareness Week is a reminder that eating disorders are complex mental health conditions that impact people of all ages, genders, and body sizes. Stigma, shame, and silence often make it harder for individuals and families to reach out for support.

Therapeutic approaches like Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) can be helpful in treatment by teaching skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and rebuilding a healthier relationship with food, body, and self. DBT also supports clients in reducing harmful behaviors through skills, structure, and validation ,instead of judgment or pressure.

If you or someone you care about is struggling with disordered eating or concerns around food and body image, you’re not alone. Early intervention and access to supportive care can make a meaningful difference.

Call our office at 954-477-7455 for a complimentary consult to learn more about DBT and other treatment options available at My Counseling Connections.

International Self-Esteem Day is a reminder that how we speak to ourselves matters. Confidence isn’t about perfection, it’s about recognizing our worth, our strengths, and our inherent dignity, even on the days we struggle.

Many people carry quiet self-criticism, comparison, or shame that can shape how they show up in relationships, school, work, and daily life. With support, those patterns can shift. Self-esteem is a skill that can be built, nurtured, and strengthened over time.

If you or someone you love could benefit from support in building healthier self-esteem, we’re here.

February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. This is a time to shine light on unhealthy relationship patterns that too often go unnoticed. Many teens don’t have the language, skills, or confidence to identify red flags, set boundaries, or ask for support when something doesn’t feel right.

DBT for Teens can help. Skills like assertive communication, emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness give young people tools to navigate relationships with more clarity, confidence, and safety. These skills don’t just reduce harm, they strengthen self-respect and support healthier connections.

Parents, caregivers, and teens don’t have to figure this out alone. Support and education can make a meaningful difference in how teens show up in relationships now and in the future.

If you’re concerned about your teen or want guidance around healthy relationships, we’re here.

Feeling flooded, stretched thin, or pulled in too many directions is a common experience, especially when you’ve been in “push through” mode for a long time. Burnout and emotional overwhelm often show up when your mind and body have been absorbing stress without a chance to reset.

Therapy can help you slow down, make sense of what’s been weighing on you, and identify what support you’ve been missing. Sometimes simply having a space where you don’t have to be the one holding everything together can make a real difference.

Reaching out isn’t just for crisis points, it’s also for preventing things from getting that far.

Call our office at 954-477-7455 for a complimentary consult.
