Most arguments don’t escalate because of what was said, they escalate because people stop feeling heard.

"GIVE" is a communication approach (and a DBT skill!) we can use to help relationships feel safer and more respectful:

🌱 Be Gentle
đź‘‚ Stay Interested
💬 Validate the other person’s experience
🙂 Keep an Easy manner when possible

Validation doesn’t mean agreement.
It means acknowledging someone’s emotional experience.

đź›  Try this next time conflict shows up:
Before responding, reflect back one thing the other person said, even if you disagree.

When people feel understood, defensiveness drops and real problem-solving becomes possible.

In therapy, we help clients practice communication that preserves dignity, connection, and trust, even during hard conversations.

🌟 Trained in Collaborative Practice? It might be time to come back.
Not trained yet? Here's why you should be.

We're hosting a 2-Day Introductory Collaborative Process Training on April 30 – May 1, 2026 in Plantation, FL — and whether you're brand new to this process or it's just been a while, there's a seat at this table for you.

đź’ˇ For family law professionals who aren't trained yet:
You have an ethical obligation to discuss ALL process options with your clients — including Collaborative Practice. It's hard to do that well when you haven't experienced the training yourself. This is where it starts.

🔄 For professionals who trained more than 2 years ago:
— New forms and consent documents have been developed specifically to protect you and your clients and ensure ethical compliance. You may not have them.
— Different trainers bring different approaches, materials, and collaborative strategies you haven't seen before.
— The process itself has evolved — Team Prep Meetings, updated neutrals' confidentiality rights, new participation agreement language — and a refresher puts you back on solid footing.

The Collaborative communities that thrive are the ones that keep showing up — for new professionals AND for each other.

📅 April 30 – May 1, 2026
📍 Plantation, FL
🎓 Open to attorneys, mental health professionals & financial neutrals

Healing After the Loss of Smell & Taste

For many people, COVID brought an unexpected and often invisible loss—the loss of smell and taste. These senses are deeply connected to everyday experiences, meaningful memories, and simple moments of enjoyment. When they are diminished or gone, it can bring feelings of grief, frustration, and isolation that others may not fully understand.

This support group offers a safe and compassionate space to process the emotional impact of these changes, share experiences with others who truly understand, and begin reconnecting with life in new ways.

Together, participants will have the opportunity to:
• Process and release the emotional grief associated with the loss of sensory experiences
• Share and connect with others who are navigating similar challenges
• Reduce feelings of isolation and build meaningful support
• Explore ways to move forward with resilience and hope

You don’t have to navigate this experience alone.

April is Stress Awareness Month a helpful reminder to pause and notice how stress may be showing up in our daily lives.

Stress is a normal part of being human. But when it builds up without the space, support, or tools to process it, it can begin to affect our mood, sleep, relationships, and overall well-being.

Sometimes stress shows up as irritability, feeling overwhelmed, difficulty focusing, or simply feeling like your nervous system is always “on.” Taking time to slow down, check in with yourself, and notice what you’re carrying can be an important first step toward feeling more balanced again.

You might consider asking yourself:
• What situations tend to increase my stress?
• What helps me feel grounded or supported?
• Who can I turn to when things start to feel overwhelming?

Developing awareness around stress patterns allows us to respond more intentionally rather than simply reacting in the moment.

Therapy can be a valuable place to explore these patterns, strengthen coping strategies, and build tools that support emotional well-being and resilience.

If stress has been feeling difficult to manage lately, you don’t have to navigate it alone. Support can make a meaningful difference.

🌍 Finding Your Place Across Cultures

Living between cultures or adjusting to a new country can be both exciting and overwhelming. You may feel pulled in multiple directions—balancing different traditions, expectations, and ways of being, without a space to fully process it.

Our Connecting to Culture group creates a supportive, judgment-free environment where you can explore your cultural identity, share your experiences, and connect with others navigating similar journeys.

In this group, you can:
• Receive culturally sensitive guidance and support
• Engage in meaningful discussions
• Build connections across diverse backgrounds
• Feel seen, heard, and understood in a confidential space

This virtual group meets Wednesdays at 1 PM and is open to anyone navigating multicultural experiences. Facilitated by therapists with expertise in multicultural counseling and cross-cultural mental health, this is a space to feel supported and connected.

You don’t have to navigate life between cultures alone, connection matters.

Ever feel like you’re stuck in the same argument over and over? Chances are, it’s not really about the issue at hand.

Most conflicts flare up when people feel unheard, misunderstood, or dismissed. It’s not about being “right”, it’s about emotional safety.

In therapy, we help couples slow down, identify what’s really driving the reaction, and uncover the emotions underneath, fear, hurt, frustration, or overwhelm. Once those feelings are acknowledged, the conversation can shift from tension to understanding.

đź›  Try this next time conflict arises:
Pause and ask,
“Can you help me understand what you’re feeling right now?”

No fixing.
No defending.
Just listening.

Learning communication, emotional regulation, and repair skills allows disagreements to become opportunities for connection rather than repetition. Healthy conflict is less about winning and more about staying close while navigating differences.

Our relationships can be some of the most meaningful parts of our lives but they can also be where we experience the most stress, misunderstanding, or hurt. Whether it’s with a partner, family member, or close friend, relationships require ongoing communication, patience, and intention.

It’s natural for conflict or disconnection to happen at times. What often makes the difference is how we respond in those moments. Learning to express our needs clearly, listen with openness, and approach difficult conversations with respect can help strengthen connection rather than create more distance.

Healthy relationships are not about avoiding conflict. They are about learning how to work through challenges in a way that preserves respect, understanding, and connection.

You might consider asking yourself:
• Am I feeling heard and understood in this relationship?
• Am I communicating my needs clearly and respectfully?
• How do we typically handle moments of disagreement or tension?

Therapy can be a valuable place to explore relationship patterns, improve communication, and develop healthier ways of relating to the people who matter most.

If you are finding certain relationship dynamics difficult to navigate, support can help.

Self-care is often talked about as something extra, but in reality it is an important part of maintaining emotional and mental well-being. When life becomes busy or overwhelming, it’s usually the first thing people set aside even though it’s often what we need the most.

Self-care doesn’t have to be elaborate. Sometimes it simply looks like setting healthier boundaries, getting enough sleep, taking a walk, stepping away from screens, or giving yourself a few quiet moments to pause and breathe. Small, consistent choices like these help regulate stress and support emotional balance.

Taking care of our physical and emotional needs helps strengthen our ability to cope with life’s challenges, manage difficult emotions, and remain present in our relationships and daily lives.

You might consider asking yourself:
• Have I been giving myself enough rest and space to recharge?
• What helps me feel grounded when life feels overwhelming?
• What small step could I take today to care for myself?

Therapy can also provide a supportive place to explore what self-care really looks like for you, strengthen coping strategies, and build habits that support long-term well-being.

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed or unsure where to start, you don’t have to figure it out alone. Support can make a meaningful difference.

March 30th is World Bipolar Day, a time to increase understanding, reduce stigma, and highlight the importance of consistent support.

Living with bipolar disorder can mean navigating intense shifts in mood, energy, and sleep. Emotional regulation becomes especially important, not to suppress feelings, but to better understand them and respond effectively.

In Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), we often teach the "PLEASE" skill to support emotional stability. PLEASE reminds us to:
• PL: Treat Physical illness
• E: Balance Lifestyle habits by healthy eating
• A: Avoid mood-Altering substances
• S: Balance Sleep
•E: Get regular Exercise

These foundational habits can significantly impact mood vulnerability. Sleep, in particular, plays a critical role. Disruptions in sleep patterns can increase the risk of mood episodes, making consistency essential.

Medical compliance is also key. Taking prescribed medications as directed and maintaining regular communication with your treatment providers can help support long-term stability. Bipolar disorder is a medical condition, and it deserves medical care, along with therapeutic support.

If you or a loved one is living with bipolar disorder, you don’t have to manage it alone.

Call our office at 954-477-7455 to schedule a complimentary consult and connect with a clinician. Support, structure, and skills can make a meaningful difference.
