It has been my pleasure to help Somy Ali and her No More Tears USA for the past several years.

Somy Ali is a force to be reckoned with—and so is her incredible medical team! 💪💜 After fracturing her wrist during a rescue mission to save a 19-year-old human trafficking victim, Somy is now under the expert care of Dr. Blum, a hand surgeon who has supported No More Tears for years.

Dr. Blum is more than just a doctor—he’s an angel on earth. Whether treating survivors pro bono or advocating for trauma-informed care, his dedication to helping those in need is truly inspiring.

Somy may need 6–8 weeks to recover, but her mission never stops. 💜 Let’s show love to both Somy and Dr. Blum for their commitment to changing lives!

One of the reasons that I am able to help so many people have great outcomes is because of the work of hand therapists. If the patient does not get proper postoperative care, then the surgery may not help. Hand therapists are vital especially after more complicated surgeries. Also, they frequently can help some of my patients avoid needing surgery at all. I have had the opportunity to work with some great hand therapists in Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties over the past 22 years. Happy Hand Therapy Week!

Halloween is one of the top three holidays that lead to the most ER visits each year. If you're carving pumpkins this year, be sure to stay safe and follow our top safety tips:
🎃 Keep your carving area clean + dry
🎃 Let the adults do the carving
🎃 Use a serrated pumpkin saw
🎃 Always carve away from your body, never towards
🎃 Pumpkins don't always need to be carved - decorating is a great option too!

For the past few years, I have been performing trigger finger releases in my office under ultrasound guidance. The procedure involves no sutures and only local anesthesia. Patients have been able to return to activities quickly. Additionally, the cost of having the procedure performed in the office instead of a surgical center or hospital is a significant financial savings for most patients.

In this video Dr. Blum takes us through a Trigger Finger Release Surgery. Please keep in mind this video may not be suitable for everyone as you do see the p...

We’d like to start the week with a huge THANK YOU to Dr. David Blum, a hand surgeon who has seen countless survivors and offers his services to us pro bono.

Today, he examined the hand of a survivor whose abuser injured her elbow so badly she will need surgery. It’s all because of kind people like Dr. Blum that we can keep doing what we do!

Pumpkin carving mishaps can result in serious tendon and nerve injuries. Please be careful and always supervise children.

Planning to carve pumpkins this week? Hand surgeons see thousands of finger and hand injuries around Halloween each year. To avoid injury, ASSH advises against carving with kitchen knives. Just a reminder to all my patients to be very careful with fireworks this July 4th weekend. Please remember that hand sanitizer is alcohol-based and flammable.

On average, 230 people visit the ER every day with fireworks injuries in the weeks around July 4. Most of these injuries are to the hands and fingers.

Unfortunately, most scheduled surgeries currently are postponed. Most elective orthopaedic procedures have to be rescheduled until a later time even if the surgery was scheduled at an outpatient surgical facility.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many hospitals have postponed elective orthopaedic surgeries to help ensure that resources are available for severely ill patients who may need them. This article describes some things you can do to help alleviate painful symptoms until your surgery can be rescheduled.
