Looking to age with strength, health, and joy? SeniorPlanet.org highlights the Blue Zone diet — eating patterns inspired by the world’s longest-lived cultures that may help support healthier aging.

According to longevity expert Dan Buettner, people in Blue Zones—regions where many live past 100—eat mostly plant-based foods with whole grains and beans as staples, enjoy small amounts of meat only a few times a month, and practice mindful eating like stopping before they’re full.

It’s not just what you eat — it’s how you eat:
âś… Larger meals earlier in the day and lighter dinners
âś… Moderate red wine as part of shared meals
✅ Eating communally with family and friends — because connection matters for longevity too

Buettner’s team also applied Blue Zone principles in a U.S. community and saw meaningful improvements in health outcomes and lower health care costs.

Residents of Stonington Arms in Pawcatuck, Connecticut were treated to a live Birds of Prey Presentation in September — and it was unforgettable.

The Denison Pequotsepos team brought four live birds of prey, giving our residents a rare chance to see these powerful creatures up close. They shared fascinating facts about:

â–¶ How different birds hunt
â–¶ What they eat
â–¶ How they raise their young
â–¶ The unique behaviors of various hawks and owls

The room was filled with excitement, curiosity, and plenty of “wow” moments as each bird made its appearance. And the best part? Denison Pequotsepos will be returning soon — this time with reptiles!

Black Friday is around the corner — and it’s not just for doorbusters or long lines! Here are smart ways for seniors to shop confidently, save money, and stay safe.

Top tips for seniors this Black Friday:
✅ Do your homework: Check price history and deals in advance so you know what’s actually a bargain.
✅ Have a budget list: Focus on what you truly need — smart devices, wellness tools, or upgrades that support your lifestyle.
âś… Avoid big crowds: Consider online shopping or go during quieter hours to skip stress and fatigue.
✅ Don’t fall for the hype: Some “crazy deals” might not be great value — skip items like big-bulk perishables or brand-new tech models without safe reviews.
✅ Choose safety first: Use trusted websites, secure payment methods, and set up any alerts or receipts so you’re protected from scams.
✅ Focus on meaningful buys: Health tools, comfortable home upgrades, connection gadgets — these often offer more value than flashy impulse buys.

Heads-up: Valid deals exist NOW — so start browsing and comparing prices early!
