Here’s the in between and after.

We started around 4pm and with 5 of us working we finished around 9:30pm with plenty of crews still working late in town much after we called it a day. The man made piles in the photos were completely hand scooped and all told it feels like we moved 10 ton of snow.☃️⛄️☃️⛄️☃️

Side note: We decided after all the scooping we are in possession of a natural ice skating rink in the alley so bring the kids, bring your skates, and when the highway opens, cmon over! Skating not for you? Grab the sleds. The piles in the churches, stores, behind the gas stations, at the motels, ditches and everywhere I didn’t mention are spectacular, enough for everyone to grab their own hill. Got a broom? There’s plenty of ice at the park for snow-hockey on the pond. They are considering a ski lift over by the Northwestern building so forget expensive snow-cations to Colorado or the Black Hills. Platte is where all your snow-fun begins!

In all seriousness, the pot is always on so if your mug is empty and you’ve been scooping driveways and roads too long today, stop in and grab a cup of coffee on us. Warm up by the fireplace. The guys here would love to hear all your snow moving stories!

We are blessed with the first blizzard of 2023!! The snow from the last blizzard of 2022 had nearly all melted, shockingly. Current conditions: still snowing. Started at 7am yesterday pretty steady and heavy throughout the day and nighttime hours. Predicting 2@3” per hour continuing through today and into the night. Stay inside and stay warm, friends! It’s slick under the snow from the melting over the weekend, so watch your step if you have to be outside.

We have been blessed with truly God fearing, ministry-focused summer helpers at TLC. These young ladies understand the true meaning of being a missionary in your own backyard. They were a blessing to have on staff over the summer. All have done extensive mission work in Puerto Rico, Mexico, and other far away mission fields. We were so grateful Jakki shared her time and attention with our residents at TLC, meeting them daily where they were at and sharing Christ’s love in Platte this summer. You don’t really think washing someone’s laundry is mission focused, till you know what a hindrance it is to them without your help.

Jakki’s grandparents are Platte locals, and they were delighted she was able to spend her summer in town. Between her work at TLC and making good family memories, she was able to spend fun days on the river and enjoy the little joys of being in Platte during a hot summer. When she’s back in town, you might just catch her at her grandparents or stopping in to say hi to summer friends at TLC!

If you are considering a mission-focused opportunity right in your own community, we would encourage you to look no farther. We think staff who commit to a shift or two a week offer the ideal situation for keeping things interesting for our residents and keeping a good work-life balance. Hi my name is Jakki Burma, and I’m from Norris SD and Sunshine Bible. I just graduated from Sunshine Bible Academy In May and after my summer in Platte, I now live in Volga and work in Brookings. I really loved working at TLC this summer because of the residents. They are all so nice. It was great to be able to sit and talk with them about the many amazing things they have seen and done in their lifetime. They are a wealth of information, great stories, and yet so full of life. My future plans are kind of undecided as of now, but I am richer for having had the opportunity to spend my summer in Platte at TLC.

Thankful today for two angels who answered the call to fill in for the day here at TLC so our little family could all rally together around the future bride/ TLC manager while dress shopping! 💍💒

We are always so blessed with good staff at TLC. This summer we had a handful of sweet interns that truly enriched our mission to serving the elderly here in Platte. As they are all off this fall on new adventures and transitioning to big things, would you to join us in praying for them?

First meet Liza! She has such a gentle soul and has been a delight to the residents and staff. 🙂 We are excited for the new things in her life- and know she will be a blessing to those around her!

If you are considering a future in healthcare, the Independent Living offers a great opportunity to approach healthcare in our own community. Residents that are at TLC enjoy having their meals prepared and room cleaned, but are generally quite fiercely independent of their own daily cares. They are great to visit and enjoy good interaction, especially meeting new people. It’s a great first step to consider embarking into the healthcare world!

We do currently have open shifts to fill for a new staff member. We have a few open rooms for a new resident as well.

Hi! My name is Liza Konechne. I am a freshman at the University of Sioux Falls, and I am studying to become nurse! Working at TLC this past summer was such an adventure! I grew up around Platte my whole life. I loved getting to know some of the elderly population of Platte and hearing about their lives and stories. We would often sit around the dining room table and chat late into the evening over cookies/snacks and coffee. Working there was a great first step into the healthcare world. I can’t wait to learn more about the medical field!
