💙 April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month 💙

At Platte Health Center Avera, we believe every child deserves a safe, healthy, and supported future.

In South Dakota, more than 1,400 children are victims of abuse or neglect each year—with neglect accounting for over 80% of cases. The most vulnerable among them are infants under the age of one, and in most situations, the harm is caused by someone they know and trust.

These numbers are more than statistics—they represent children, families, and communities who need support.

Prevention starts with all of us. By strengthening families, staying aware, and speaking up when something doesn’t feel right, we can help protect the children in our communities.
