If your legs ache, feel heavy, or throb at the end of the day, compression hose might be your new best friend.

Compression hose are specially designed socks that gently squeeze your legs to improve circulation, reduce swelling, and support your veins. For people with varicose veins, that added pressure helps keep blood from pooling and can relieve discomfort throughout the day.

Bonus: They're available in lots of fun styles now!

You may hear your doctor mention PAD or PVD—but what do those terms mean?

PVD (Peripheral Vascular Disease) is a broad term for conditions that affect blood vessels outside the heart and brain, such as veins and arteries in your legs.

PAD (Peripheral Artery Disease) is the most common type of PVD. It happens when plaque builds up in the arteries, reducing blood flow—often causing leg pain, cramping, or numbness when walking.

Think of it this way: PAD is a type of PVD. If you've been told you have PAD, it means your arteries are specifically affected.

If you notice leg pain when walking, slow-healing wounds, or changes in skin color on your legs or feet, call our specialists for the best treatment. (518) 562-7557

Risk: “I feel fine, so my arteries must be healthy.”
Fact: Vascular disease often develops quietly, with no obvious warning signs. Plaque buildup in the arteries can take years to cause noticeable symptoms — and by the time leg pain, cramping, or swelling appear, blood flow may already be significantly reduced.

This “silent” progression is why regular checkups and screenings are critical, especially if you have risk factors like smoking, diabetes, high cholesterol, or high blood pressure. Detecting it early can prevent serious complications, including heart attack, stroke, and amputation.

September is Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD) Awareness Month—a time to shine a light on a condition that affects more than 8.5 million Americans. PAD happens when arteries in the legs become narrowed, reducing blood flow and increasing the risk of heart attack and stroke.

If you’ve noticed leg pain while walking, slow-healing wounds, or numbness in your feet, don’t ignore it.

Peripheral Artery Disease can be caught early with quick, non-invasive tests:

Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI): Compares blood pressure in your ankle to your arm to check blood flow.
Ultrasound: Uses sound waves to spot blockages or narrowed arteries.
CT or MR Angiography: Creates detailed images of your blood vessels.

Screenings are fast, painless, and can be life-saving. This PAD Awareness Month, ask your provider if it’s time for a vascular check-up — because the best treatment starts with early detection.
