In the aftermath of an ICE agent killing Renee Nicole Good, there must be truth, justice and accountability, the Minnesota Chapter said in a statement. The chapter says video evidence shows Good was not a threat to the officer. The chapter is offering resources for who want to peacefully protest this violent action. Human Rights Day reminds us of our shared responsibility to uphold dignity, equality, and justice for every human being. Dr. Maya Angelou understood the cost of silence and the power of raising one’s voice.

In “I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings”, she wrote: “The caged bird sings of freedom.”

That line is more than a metaphor — it is a call to listen deeply to those who have been silenced, to speak boldly when we witness injustice, and to stand with courage for the freedoms we all deserve. Her legacy reminds us that defending human rights begins with compassion, awareness, and the conviction that every voice matters.
