Always on a journey to fulfill his passion of working with patients and helping them achieve the smile they never thought possible, Dr. Cheng Zhu embarked on a new venture in Pleasant Hill opening his own dental practice, Pleasant Hill Dental. Originally from Toronto, Canada where he was a licensed pharmacist for four years, Dr. Cheng Zhu decided to forgo pharmaceuticals to pursue his dream and passion of becoming a general dentist. He enrolled at the prestigious Temple University School of Dentistry in Philadelphia and graduated in 2004 with a doctorate in dental medicine. After graduating, he honed his dental skills at a local practice in Las Vegas. He then moved to Reno, Nevada where he served as a dentist for the Veterans Affairs Sierra Nevada Health Care System and eventually relocated with his wife to the Bay Area in order to pursue his state-of-the-art dream practice in Pleasant Hill, California.
By leveraging his pharmaceutical expertise in understanding how the human body uses and responds to medications and how it affects overall health and wellness, Dr. Zhu is uniquely positioned to maximize his comprehensive and effective approach to general, cosmetic and sedation dentistry. At Pleasant Hill Dental, Dr. Zhu provides the latest in dental technology and aesthetic procedures using 21st century methods such as Waterlase for fillings and gum sculpting. The laser allows him to expertly shape teeth and excess gum tissue with minimal trauma and rapid healing. Dr. Zhu, an avid student of higher education, continually strives to remain ahead of the curve and proactive with the latest dental equipment and materials. He consistently accumulates more than 100 hours of continuing education courses annually. He has also has taken extensive advanced training courses in all aspect of dentistry such as porcelain veneers, Invisalign, sedation dentistry, endodontics, gum surgeries and dental implants. Dr. Zhu and his team regularly attend national and local dental society meetings and conferences to stay abreast of the latest dental discoveries, techniques and technology. In 2011, Dr. Zhu received extensive training in Sedation Dentistry from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA. He has since incorporated sedation as a unique part of his dental practice in order to benefit patients who have high anxiety and fear to dental procedures. Dr. Zhu is one of the few general dentists licensed to perform IV conscious sedation in California.
Dr. Zhu is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry and International Congress of Oral Implantologists, member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentists and a fellow member of the Pleasant Hill Chamber of Commerce. While not creating the perfect smile, Dr. Zhu frequently attends community events and seek opportunities to give back to the community.
