What if “mastery” is a myth?
I’m standing in a museum in Florence thinking about Michelangelo—who became so frustrated with his Pietà that he took a hammer to it. Even a genius questioned his own work.
It’s a reminder. Even when we practice something every day, we still make mistakes. We still get stuck. We still feel that surge of frustration.
And that’s normal.
How we present ourselves, how we speak, how we lead—these aren’t skills we master once. They’re skills we return to, again and again.
So keep working. Keep refining. Keep learning.
Progress in your communication skills is the real craft.

Game Day!

I love days like today! ♥️
After weeks of preparation with my client - by providing them with skills and practice activities, I get to sit in the back of the room and observe the transformation!

Clients seek me out wanting to affirm that their presentation skills are stellar. These are professionals who have been speaking in front of groups for years.

Often times, all it takes is a few adjustments!

Congratulations to my client today who aced his training this morning.

How appropriate is the fortune I received after dinner last night?!

So appreciated for several reasons:
1) I work very hard on my listening skills
2) I preach/teach the importance of listening skills every day as part of my job!

Listening is NOT hearing 👂
Listening is being fully present, removing distractions, maintaining eye contact, being open-minded, avoiding interrupting, using non-verbal cues, asking clarifying & open ended questions, reflecting, respecting silence, avoiding judgement… phew!

Good news - active listening is a skill you can learn & improve!

I’m onsite at a convention - and with over 80 speakers presenting over the next 3 days, I’m going to be busy!
Why should you have a speech coach on-site the days leading into a big speaking event?

- To offer advice on speaking rate, projection, tone, emphasis
- To offer a fresh perspective
- To watch body language, facial expressions, gestures
- To ease nerves!!

The goal is for all speakers to present in their own style while projecting certainly and poise.

And I’m here to make sure that happens!

Remarkable December Speech Coaching Adventure! I was incredibly impressed by these seven CHNi demo teams - they were 1) willing to listen to speech coaching feedback and 2) put the tips that I gave them into practice!

Each speaker has their own strengths and areas to improve. No speaker is alike.

For example, one presenter rocked on his back heels; another kept touching his face; another stood right in front of the monitor so I couldn’t see the power point presentation.

Once I pointed out these situations and demonstrated what TO do, they were off and running! And with a smile! 😊

As you can see from the photos, the teams had fun at the event and they all wanted me to tell them that they were the #1 demo team. Sorry guys, I don’t have favorites. 😏 (…But you know who you are)

WHAT: Up early, traveling to Phoenix to do some speech coaching!

Who: Engineers and Farming Tech Experts at CNH Industrial

WHERE: Tech Day at Maricopa Agricultural Center, AZ

WHEN: Saturday/Sunday - demo session rehearsals offsite; Monday - rehearsal onsite (crossing my fingers I get to ride in the cab of a tractor!)

WHY: Because CNHi knows the value of a professional who can coach their team members on being clear, confident communicators. They are the experts in all things tech farming and I’m the expert in communicating that message
