I had a great time connecting with new people and expanding my perspective at a workshop this past weekend.

At a time when the world can feel heavy both personally and collectively, it was refreshing to come together and explore powerful questions:

👉🏼Are we defined by our circumstances, or do we have more agency than we realize?
👉🏼Can we recognize and shift some of the patterns and narratives we’ve unconsciously picked up along the way?

I walked away with renewed energy, meaningful conversations, and new friendships.♥️

This is not about positive thinking, it’s physiology.

Research from Stanford psychologist Dr. Alia Crum shows that how stress is framed can change physiological responses — not just how we feel, but how the body actually performs.

👉🏼 When stress is framed as damaging, it changes how it shows up in the body.
✔️ When it’s framed as a normal, trainable state, the body is more likely to respond in ways that support performance.

That understanding is why I created and use a non-clinical, performance-based model to talk about stress and regulation with high-pressure professionals.

✨The words we use influence how the body responds.

We talk a lot about breaking the stigma and encouraging people to reach out for help.
What I’ve personally found, though, is that many of us aren’t always met with the capacity to handle those moments when we’re not doing okay.

👉🏼It takes real trust and courage to say, “I’m struggling.”

So when that moment is met with surprise, dismissal, or the need to explain or justify how we feel, something closes. Not because support isn’t wanted, but because it no longer feels safe to stay open.

👉🏼The truth is, everyone struggles.
It isn’t realistic — or human — to be at our best all the time, no matter how skilled, tough, or capable we are. Those moments aren’t just psychological, they’re physiological.

That’s why I'm passionate about sharing simple ways to identify nervous system states, the different “gears” we naturally move through. With my background in physical therapy and mind-body wellness, we use the body to do this. Often, the body shows us before our minds can even catch up.

✔️The whole point is to normalize that we fluctuate and name what’s happening for us in the moment. We can't change something unless we are first aware of it.

✔️This awareness helps us validate our own experience and build the capacity to hold space for ourselves and for others.

When we’re in Optimal Gear, clarity, judgment, and critical thinking are at their peak.

For professionals whose decisions have real consequences, having tools to stay in this state isn’t a luxury — it impacts individuals, organizations, and society as a whole.

I just finished sharing quick, on-the-job tools to help attorneys shift into Optimal Gear during my workshop, Stay Sharp, Steady & Well, an MCLE on competence for the Contra Costa Bar Association.

This work matters deeply to me and feels especially important in times like these.

Reality check: for many of us, by this time our resolutions are out the door and we’re already back in high gear for much of the day.

When big goals slip away, it’s easy to turn that into self-criticism or feel like we’ve failed.

👉🏼But sustainable performance and resilience aren’t built through sweeping changes.
✔️They’re built through small, in-the-moment shifts that bring the nervous system back into balance.

This could look like
• softening where you’re holding tension
• taking one intentional breath
• moving your body, even briefly

✨It’s not only about the big goals. It’s about the small shifts you make in the moment.

Grateful to teach another MCLE for attorneys on how to Stay Sharp, Steady, & Well, this time for the San Mateo County Bar Association, focused on performance under pressure and nervous system regulation.

High-pressure, always-on roles demand clarity and sound judgment. Supporting long-term competence in those conditions matters.

A full-circle moment. 🤍

Returning to India after 23 years, I was struck by a mix of familiarity and discovery. Born and raised in the U.S., I had visited regularly throughout my childhood.

On this trip, I spent time with family I’d deeply missed, celebrated my parents’ 50th anniversary, and reconnected with places that shaped my roots.

Being between two cultures reminded me how important it is to honor where you come from — and also to define yourself on your own authentic terms.

✨Grateful for perspective, connection, and reflection as the year begins.

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year.

In recent multi-session trainings I led with law enforcement supervisors, I shared a simple formula:
✨Performance = Output – Internal Load.

We train “output” constantly.
But internal load matters just as much.

✔️Internal load = everything your body and mind are carrying in the moment — tension, breath patterns, mental clutter, anticipatory stress, the last call you were on.

👉🏼All of it shapes how you think, speak, and perform.

The good news?
There are quick, body based ways to reduce internal load. I call them mini downshifts.
And when performance matters, this isn’t optional — it’s operational.

My second Police1 article is now out! It's about using Mini Downshifts to stay sharp, steady, and well in the long run.

It's not just for law enforcement, but for anyone who operates under pressure.

👉🏼When your nervous system stays in High Gear for too long, performance, clarity, and resilience can all be impacted.

✔️In the article, I share how real-time resets help you stay in peak performance and wellness zones.

Happy Thanksgiving! 🍁 Grateful to be connected.

The holidays can be meaningful and stressful, so here are 4 reminders to help you stay steady:

1. Set clear boundaries. It's ok to say no.
2. Take breaks as needed. Even a short walk, few minutes outdoors, or a mindful pause.
3. Breathe! Notice how your breathing is being impacted by stress and take a few deep breaths.
4. Don't lose sight of what really matters during the holidays.

Wishing you a peaceful holiday season. ✨

✨A gentle reminder as the season ramps up: steadiness isn’t something we wait for, it’s something we practice in small moments.
👉🏼One breath, one pause, one shift at a time.
✔️Working with the body is one of the simplest ways to stay in your optimal zone.
