Today, we recognize therapy dogs and the dedicated handlers who volunteer their time to bring comfort, emotional support and connection to people of all ages. Therapy dogs play an important role in hospitals, schools and clinical and non‑clinical settings, offering companionship, helping ease stress and supporting individuals—including veterans—living with PTSD.

When interacting with a therapy dog, it’s important to be respectful by checking with the handler and giving the animal space to do its important work. Their presence can have a powerful and lasting impact on those they visit.

The 30th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is today April 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. This semiannual event offers a free, anonymous and safe way to dispose of unused or expired prescription medications.

This day helps prevent prescription drug misuse, theft and accidental poisoning by removing unneeded medications from homes. Unused prescriptions stored in medicine cabinets are a common source of prescription drug abuse.

National Stress Awareness Day is dedicated to raising awareness about stress reduction and falls mid‑month to encourage work‑life balance and regular health check‑ins. It serves as a reminder to pause, take a deep breath and relax.

There are many effective ways to cope with stress, such as improving time management, eating well and staying active. Take a moment today to try one of these strategies—or another activity that helps release tension—and consider making it a daily or weekly habit. Stress may be a part of life, but it doesn’t have to take over yours.

If you need additional help, call us today. We're here for you!

This month is a time for advocates, survivors, loved ones and communities to come together to speak openly about sexual violence, support survivors, increase awareness and identify ways to prevent harm. Sexual violence is preventable and stopping abuse, assault, and harassment requires collective action to promote healthy, safe, and respectful behaviors.

For survivors or those currently experiencing abuse, it’s common to feel shame, guilt, fear, or isolation. These experiences can also contribute to stress, anxiety, depression and substance use. Support and healing are possible, and no one has to face this alone.

If you or someone you know has experienced abuse and needs help, Michiana Behavioral Health is here to listen and support. We are an inpatient hospital serving children ages 6–17 and adults 18 and older. We are available 24/7, and walk‑ins are welcome.
