Score a touchdown for your cardiovascular health this Super Bowl Sunday with these Functional Medicine-approved nachos! We’re swapping inflammatory ingredients for nutrient-dense powerhouses without sacrificing that game-day crunch.
Start with Siete grain-free chips for a mineral-rich base. Layer on organic shredded chicken and fiber-packed black beans to keep blood sugar stable while you cheer. The "secret sauce" is the veggie sauté: bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms are loaded with antioxidants and sulfur compounds that support blood flow. To boost the heart-healthy profile even further, I’ve added a heavy hand of cilantro for heavy metal detoxification and creamy avocado for those essential monounsaturated fats.
Heart-Healthy Nacho Build:
• Base: Siete Grain-Free Tortilla Chips.
• Protein/Fiber: Shredded organic chicken + canned organic black beans (rinsed).
• The Sauté: Bell peppers, onions, and mushrooms sautéed in avocado oil with cumin and smoked paprika.
• The Melts: A light sprinkle of organic grass-fed shredded cheese.
• The Toppers: Fresh cilantro, diced avocado, and a side of probiotic-rich salsa.
Dietitian Tip: Skip the sour cream and use a dollop of plain Greek yogurt for extra protein and gut-friendly probiotics!

Peace in the world starts with peace in your own nervous system. 🌍🤍
The world is heavy right now. The news is heartbreaking. And when we combine that emotional weight with the brutal winter isolation, it is easy to fall into the trap of "Doom Scrolling" for hours.
But I want to offer you a different perspective today:
Destroying your own health does not help the world heal.
When you consume trauma 24/7 without being able to act on it, your body floods with Cortisol. This suppresses your immune system, spikes your blood sugar, and leads to burnout.
If there is an action you can take to help—donate, volunteer, speak up—do it.
But if you are just watching and worrying? You are depleting the very energy you need to be of service.
Self-care is not selfish; it is community care. By keeping yourself strong, healthy, and out of urgent care, you are preserving resources and showing up as a pillar of strength for those around you.
Limit the scrolling. Protect your peace. The world needs you strong, not broken.

Tired? Good. You are supposed to be. 😴
If you feel like all you want to do is hibernate right now, stop beating yourself up. You are fighting biology.
We are wired to slow down in the winter. Pushing your body to the limit when your energy is already low doesn't build fitness; it just burns out your adrenals.
But here is the catch: There is a big difference between Hibernation (Restoring) and Stagnation (Clogging).
When we stop moving completely, our lymphatic system stalls. This traps toxins and inflammation in the body, which actually makes you feel more tired and heavy.
My "Winter Maintenance" Prescription:
Stop trying to crush a high-intensity workout in sub-zero temps if you are exhausted.
Instead, commit to just 15 Minutes of Indoor Movement.
🧘🏽‍♀️ Yoga
🤸🏽‍♀️ Pilates
🙆🏽‍♀️ Stretching
That is enough to flush the lymph and boost your mood without draining your battery.
Save this post as your permission slip to rest this weekend. 🤍

Does the world feel extra heavy right now? You are not alone. 🌨️💔
Between the brutal cold, the gray skies, and the constant news cycle, our bodies are naturally stuck in "survival mode." When we feel unsafe or exhausted, we crave sugar and carbs because they give us a quick dopamine hit.
But here is the truth: That sugar crash just leaves us feeling more tired and more inflamed.
Instead of restricting yourself or going on a strict diet during this stressful time, I want you to focus on ADDING. When you crowd out the bad with the good, the cravings naturally subside.
Here are the 4 Daily Essentials I want you to ADD to your routine to keep your mood stable and cravings at bay:
🥑 1. Healthy Fats (The Stabilizers)
Add 1/2 an avocado, a handful of walnuts, or soaked chia seeds to your meals.
Why: Fat signals satiety to the brain. It stabilizes your blood sugar so you don’t get that 3 PM "hangry" panic that leads to snacking.
🍵 2. Turmeric Latte or Green Tea (The Soothers)
Swap your 2nd or 3rd coffee for one of these.
Why: Coffee spikes cortisol (stress hormone), which triggers belly fat storage. Turmeric and Green Tea are anti-inflammatory and warm the body without the jitters.
🥣 3. Bone Broth (The Craving Killer)
Sip on a cup in the afternoon instead of reaching for a cookie.
Why: It’s "Liquid Gold." The protein keeps you full, and the collagen heals the gut lining (which gets damaged by stress). It satisfies that hand-to-mouth habit in a nourishing way.
🥝 4. One Kiwi (The Energy Boost)
Eat just one a day.
Why: It’s a powerhouse of Vitamin C to support your immune system and fight that winter sluggishness.
Which one of these are you going to add to your day tomorrow? Tell me in the comments! 👇🏽

❄️ It’s not just about the coat—it’s about your metabolism. Here is the Functional Medicine approach to surviving this extreme freeze.
1️⃣ Hydrate: Cold air dehydrates your mucous membranes (your immune system’s first defense). Drink warm broths and teas.
2️⃣ Eat Warm: Ditch the salads. Your body is burning energy to stay warm; fuel it with root veggies and warming spices.
3️⃣ Cover Up: Protect your lungs by covering your mouth to warm the air before you breathe it in.
Stay safe out there!

We aren’t just trying to be thinner this year; we are trying to be stronger. 💪🏼✨
For a long time, the "health" conversation was dominated by hustle culture. It was about how little you could eat, how much cardio you could endure, and shrinking yourself at any cost.
But the paradigm is shifting.
We are moving away from the "calorie in, calorie out" obsession and toward a metabolic health approach. We are trading the fear of bulk for the power of muscle. We are stopping the war on our bodies and starting to listen to our biology—honoring our cycles, prioritizing rest, and digging deep for the root cause rather than just suppressing symptoms.
2026 isn't about the quick fix; it's about the sustainable, functional fix.
❌ Out: Starving, stressing, and blindly using tools like GLP-1s without lifestyle changes.
✅ In: Nourishing, lifting, regulating the nervous system, and using medical support strategically if needed.

Does this sound like you? 🧠⚡️
In my 20+ years as a functional medicine dietitian, I often see patients who deal with anxiety, skin flare-ups, brain fog, or joint pain and accept it as "normal."
I am here to tell you: It is not normal. It is inflammation. 🔥
To see real results, we need to Remove the triggers and Add the healers. Here is my starter protocol:
🚫 REMOVE:
1. Gluten: A common trigger for gut permeability and brain fog.
2. Seed Oils: Ditch the canola/vegetable oil for Avocado or Olive oil.
3. Added Sugar: The fuel for inflammation.
✅ ADD:
1. Omega-3s: The "fire extinguisher" (Salmon, Walnuts).
2. Cruciferous Veggies: To support detox pathways.
3. Green Tea: For powerful antioxidants.
👇 Which one of these is the hardest for you to quit? Let me know below!

Let’s leave restrictive resolutions in 2025, shall we? 👋✨

Every New Year’s Eve, we’re flooded with messages telling us we need to become a “brand new person” by January 1st.
And almost always, that transformation is packaged as extreme workouts, rigid food rules, and diets that punish your body… only to leave you exhausted, inflamed, and frustrated by February.

As a Functional Dietitian, I want to offer you a different way forward in 2026 🌿

This year, we’re not subtracting.
We’re adding support.

Instead of restricting → let’s nourish.
Instead of chasing weight loss → let’s focus on cellular and gut health.
Instead of obsessing over the scale → let’s tune into energy, digestion, hormones, and mood.

Because real health isn’t about willpower.
It’s about alignment.
It’s about giving your body what it needs so it can do what it’s designed to do.

Swipe through 👉 for 10 mindset swaps to carry into the New Year.
These aren’t quick fixes or detox trends.
They’re sustainable shifts that help support your gut, reduce inflammation, balance hormones, and rebuild a peaceful relationship with food.

✨ Progress over perfection.
✨ Nourishment over punishment.
✨ Support over stress.

Going for your annual physical this January? 🗓️
Here’s a gentle reminder: don’t stop at “everything looks normal.”📉
Normal ranges don’t always mean *optimal* health.

If you truly want to understand what’s happening inside your body, ask your doctor about these 3 functional markers—they’re incredibly insightful but often *not* part of routine lab work 👇

🔹 Fasting Insulin
This tells you how hard your body is working to manage blood sugar. Even when glucose is “normal,” high insulin can signal early metabolic imbalance, weight gain, or insulin resistance. Think prevention, not panic.

🔹 Vitamin D☀️
More than just a vitamin it’s a hormone that supports immunity, mood, bone health, and inflammation control. Low levels are extremely common and often missed unless specifically tested.

🔹 hs-CRP (High-sensitivity C-Reactive Protein)
A powerful marker of silent inflammation. Chronic low-grade inflammation can be the root of fatigue, gut issues, hormonal imbalance, and long-term disease risk.

✨ Knowledge is power. When you know your numbers, you can make smarter lifestyle and nutrition choices—before symptoms show up.

📌 Save this post for your doctor’s appointment and advocate for your health.
You deserve more than “looks fine.”
