M.K. Place uses the GAIN-I as a screening tool for admittance into our residential facility. If the client has co-occurring issues, we do require that substance abuse be primary, and that the client be stable (i.e. not suicidal, etc.).
M.K. Place specializes in co-occurring disorders. All of the counselors are LCPC or LPC licensed mental health clinicians, who also specialize in addictions. We do have one CADC on staff who has been with our agency for eleven years. We have an MOU with Physicians Immediate Care Mental Health Clinic in Pocatello. They have a Psychiatrist and a counselor who also specializes in addictions. We use Physicians Immediate Care Mental Health for Psychiatrist consult, assessment, and medication management. We have immediate access to this facility and we staff with them regularly. As long as the client is stable, we can work with any diagnosis. This facility also provides EMDR for trauma as needed and the counselor comes to our facility to work with the client. We ensure that clients take any prescribed medications while in treatment. Refusing medication is not an option.
M.K. Places uses DBT groups to address emotional regulation and other co-occurring issues. Counselors have had extensive trauma training and we conduct Seeking Safety groups, and work with mental health issues in one-on-one sessions. All counselors have supervision at M.K. Place. Cindy Hansen, MA, ACADC, CCS has worked in the field of addictions since 1982 and has run several treatment programs.

Seeking Safety
Seven Challenges- Over the last 2 years M.K. Place has been trained in and implemented the Seven Challenges Program. It is a best practices program and has proven to be effective. We also use this program in our Drug Court and we work very closely with probation to ensure fidelity. In addition, counselors meet weekly to assure that validity and fidelity are being maintained in this program for successful outcomes.
M.K. Place feels strongly that the family component is an integral part of continued recovery. We have a family therapist on staff, and every client receives family counseling unless contraindicated by the probation officer. If the client’s family is out of the county, then we have telephone sessions, which have been very effective. The family therapist works with the parents on communication skills, boundaries, and a recovery plan to support clients upon discharge (in addition to other issues brought up). If reintegration is not healthy, M.K. Place works closely with probation to seek other options outside of the home.
