Meet David Voorheis! He graduated from ISU with his BS in Psychology and specializes in skill building, community integration, and self-advocacy. He has nearly 10 years of experience working with those who have intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). David believes in helping others find long-term progress through extensive awareness and community knowledge, and it brings him joy to support people through their growth journeys. He is interested in Mesoamerican Studies, painting watercolors, reading, and expressing himself creatively. He loves learning about different cultures and words and enjoys hiking, kayaking, and camping. He believes that every day brings opportunities to make your own luck and pursue your own happiness. We appreciate you and your wonderful perspective on life, David!

Meet América Caballero, BA! An integral part of our Community Staff, América brings compassion, curiosity, and cultural awareness to everything she does. In addition to a BA in Psychology and a minor in Counseling and Educational Psychology from NMSU, she is currently pursuing her Master’s in Counseling in Clinical Mental Health at ISU, never missing an opportunity to learn and grow. Her specialties include child and youth support, counseling foundations, empowerment, and cultural awareness, making her an incredible advocate for the individuals and families she serves. She’s proud of her Mexican heritage, and her adventurous spirit shows in her love for martial arts — including kickboxing, boxing, Jiu Jitsu, and Taekwondo, where she’s earned her black belt! Thank you, América, for the dedication, heart, and strength you bring to your work every day. We’re so proud to have you on our team!

We all feel sadness. It’s a normal emotion that often passes with time, support, or rest. But how do you know when it’s something more? Depression is more than feeling down. It’s a medical condition that affects not just mood, but also energy levels, sleep patterns, and daily function. Those experiencing depression may lose interest in things they once enjoyed or struggle to get through the day. If sadness lingers or makes it difficult to function, it may be time to reach out for support. We’re here to help.
