the only temporary organ, a multifunctional organ, acting as baby's lungs to supply oxygen, kidneys to filter out waste, and as gastrointestinal and immune systems by delivering nutrients and antibodies.
• MATERNAL SIDE:
attached to uterine wall
• FETAL SIDE:
connected to baby via umbilical cord
✨The placenta detaches from the inside of the uterus after the baby is born, this leaves behind a wound 6-8 inches in diameter that needs time for healing to ward off infection and hemorrhaging—at least 4-6 weeks for the wound to completely heal.
One of the many reasons birth givers need lots of rest and community care to recover & heal✨

Lorraine Birch

My name is Lorraine Spady Birch, and I am passionate about helping women achieve their ideal birth story. I support both mothers and partners in their roles through prenatal education, the birth, and postpartum care. I desire for mothers to feel completely supported and have their dreams and wishes heard. I love being able to help this stage of life become a positive experience, through both physical and emotional support. Support should not end at birth, so I offer postpartum services as well, helping mothers to feel confident in their new role. I'm a wife and mother to four awesome kids, each arriving with their own unique birth story, born at both hospitals and at home. Throughout my own births, and attending the births of babies of family members and friends, my passion for helping and empowering mothers grew. I would love to meet with you for a free consultation to hear your wishes for your birth, and discuss how I can help you achieve them.
