As well as alcohol and co***ne abuse, ‘The Gypsy King’ was dealing with bipolar disorder and was engrossed by suicidal thoughts.

As his weight ballooned, his titles slipped from his grasp and his boxing career seemed resigned to history.

But Fury sought medical help, got back into training and into stronger shape physically and mentally and made his return to the ring in 2018 after more than two years out of the sport.

On October 9, 2021, his arc was complete when he defeated Deontay Wilder to win the WBC heavyweight championship of the world and reclaim his place on the throne of the division.”

As part of an individualized treatment plan, The Sands Treatment Center incorporates CBT with client therapies as a way to help them identify self-defeating thoughts and behaviors which may often drive addiction. During CBT (which is a type of psychotherapy that is different from traditional psychodynamic psychotherapy), the patient and therapist actively work together to help the patient recover from specific identified mental illness issues. People who seek CBT can expect a therapist to be problem-focused and goal-directed in addressing the challenging symptoms of mental illnesses. CBT is an active intervention technique for the treatment of drug and alcohol addiction, which means that our patients will be active participants in their own recovery, using written exercises and keeping thought records to help them better understand negative thinking – and to develop healthier thinking, which they can then incorporate into their lives.

The Sands Treatment Center Partial Hospitalization Program is ideal for individuals leaving residential treatment who understand that while they have more work to do on their addiction recovery, that a 24-hour setting is no longer necessary. This kind of program might be a needed resource after a relapse of symptoms that bring the disease of addiction out of remission. Although the program will vary, PHP is generally six hours a day, five days a week. While participating in our Day/Night PHP treatments, clients will receive all of the necessary tools to enhance the progress that they need to make for effective, long-term sobriety.

Part of our PHP program is the incorporation of essential “Life Skills” training. Truly successful addiction recovery is based on the ability to not only live substance-free, but to thrive. Life skills teach the practical necessities of functioning in society, which sets our clients up for success in life, and therefore in sobriety. Life skills trainings at The Sands involve skills such as time management, career guidance, money management, and effective communication.
